Australia’s middle-order batsman Travis Head has become the world’s number 1 Test batsman. In the latest update of the ICC Test rankings, Head moved to the top after England’s Harry Brook slipped following the Nottingham Test against New Zealand.
Several New Zealand players were also rewarded after the Test series win over England at Trent Bridge in the latest rankings. Their strong performances boosted their position in the ICC rankings and strengthened New Zealand’s hopes in the World Test Championship standings.
Travis Head becomes world’s number 1 test batsman
Travis Head has reached the top of the ICC Test batting rankings for the first time in his career. He replaced England’s Harry Brook, who dropped to second place after a poor performance against New Zealand. England’s experienced batsman Joe Root also slipped two places to third place.
After winning the series in England, many New Zealand batsmen got big benefits. Rachin Ravindra moved up two places to seventh, Daryl Mitchell moved up five places to 11th and Devon Conway moved up 14 places to joint 15th. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has reached sixth position.
New Zealand captain Tom Latham has also improved 12 places to joint 31st in the batting rankings. Fast bowler Nathan Smith has moved up eight places to 38th in the bowling rankings after his impressive performances during the series.
Jasprit Bumrah at number 1 in test bowling rankings
Jasprit Bumrah has regained the singles No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings after New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry slipped to second place. The tough competition between the two bowlers shows how competitive the ICC Test bowling rankings remain.
Several West Indies bowlers were also rewarded after their Test series win over Sri Lanka in Antigua in the latest rankings. Shamar Joseph has moved up nine places to joint 14th in the Test bowling rankings, while Kemar Roach has moved up four places to 17th after impressive performances throughout the series.
Former England captain Ben Stokes also moved up two places to third in the ICC Test all-rounder rankings after his final Test against New Zealand. Stokes retired from international cricket after the Trent Bridge Test.
Many changes were seen in the ICC rankings after the Test matches in England and West Indies. Strong performances in these series reshaped the batting, bowling and all-rounder rankings in the latest weekly update.
