India’s national cricket team’s young batsman Tilak Verma made an extraordinary save to stop South Africa’s national cricket team’s batsman Aiden Markram from hitting a certain six.
The incident occurred during the second ODI of the three-match series between the India national cricket team and the South Africa national cricket team at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
Tilak Verma showed unrealistic fielding effort in Raipur
The 23-year-old Tilak is considered one of the best fielders of the Indian team, and has proved his credentials on the field with impressive performances time and again.
He covers the ground very well and hardly misses any chance on the field. Tilak Verma is currently a part of India’s ODI team for the series against Proteas, but even in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, he has not got a chance in the playing eleven.
It was expected that he would bat at number 4 against the Proteas, but that did not happen as the Gautam Gambhir-led team management decided to give this position to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
However, Tilak Verma has been given the opportunity to play the role of substitute fielder, and he has been successful in impressing everyone with his efforts.
Tilak’s best performance came in the 20th over of the second innings in Raipur, when he made a superman-like save to stop Aiden Markram from hitting a six.
On the fourth ball of the over, Kuldeep Yadav bowled a flight ball to Aiden Markram, who cleared his leg and lofted the ball towards long-on.
Tilak managed to get down to the ball quickly, leaping for a catch near the boundary, but when he realized he would not be able to complete it, he managed to throw the ball back inside the boundary, saving 5 runs in the process.

ODI and Test cricket feel like my game because I enjoy the longer format – Tilak Verma
Speaking before the match, young left-handed batsman Tilak said that he enjoys playing the longer format more than T20 cricket. He also revealed the influence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on his career.
“ODI and Test cricket feels like my game because I enjoy the longer formats. I am also really excited to play more ODIs. When Rohit bhai and Virat bhai are in the same team, the confidence level is completely different,” Tilak said on Geostar.
“He has a lot of experience and knowledge and I try to take as much advice as I can from him to get better,” Tilak said.
“I talk to Virat bhai a lot, especially about fitness and running between the wickets. His intensity is incredible. I also like running, and I think I’m quite fast, so I really enjoy that part of the game. If we play together, running between the wickets with him is something I look forward to,” said the 23-year-old.
