Pakistan failed to capture 3 Asia Cup title – Green’s Asia Cup winning history
Team Pakistan won its first Asia Cup title in 2000 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Facing a strong Sri Lankan side at the summit, Pakistan gave a good performance. Saeed Anwar, Inzam-ul-Haq, and Moin Khan hit a brilliant half-century to help post his side to post a competitive total.
While defending, Pakistan’s bowling attack was disciplined and effective and managed to exclude Sri Lanka for 238 to win the game by 39 runs. Moin Khan won the Player of the Match in the final, while Mohammad Yusuf won the Player of the Series. The Asia Cup victory occurred during a period when Pakistan was riding a high ride from its successful 1992 World Cup campaign.
Then, he had to wait for more than a decade to get his hands on the second Asia Cup Trophy as his title ended in 2012. Pakistan faced Bangladesh in the final in Mirpur and was challenged by Bangla Tigers.
Batting first, Pakistan posted 236/9 on board, below order with the major contribution of Shahid Afridi and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Bangladesh fought a tough fight in the chase, with Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan’s standout performance.
However, Pakistan bowlers, especially Aizaz Cheema and Saeed Ajmal took wickets at important junctions to limit Bangladesh to 234/8 to register a brilliant 2-win win.
