Rajasthan Royals (RR) youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines with another brilliant innings in the IPL 2026 Eliminator. After missing out on the record for the fastest century, the 15-year-old showed a team-first mentality, saying that helping Rajasthan Royals win is more important than breaking individual records.
The left-handed batsman scored 97 runs in just 29 balls, which included five fours and 12 sixes. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator on Wednesday, May 27. Suryavanshi attempted an upper-cut off Prafulla Hinge, but was caught at deep third man, missing out on the fastest century in IPL history.
Those runs don’t matter – Vaibhav Suryavanshi gives priority to team’s success over records
Speaking ahead of Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, Vaibhav Suryavanshi He said that he gives more importance to team victory than individual achievements. The Rajasthan Royals opener revealed that his father taught him from a young age that individual records matter only if they help the team win.
“Since my childhood, my father has always told me that if you score a century, a double century or even a triple century, but because of it the team does not win, then those runs have no importance,” Suryavanshi said.
“They may be only for your personal records, but they do not benefit the team. Cricket, after all, is a team game. So, if I score 80 instead of a century and my team wins, and if we don’t win even after I score a century, that 80 means more to me than a hundred,” he said.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi said that he is helping Rajasthan Royals Advancing in the tournament will naturally create more opportunities for them to achieve individual achievements.
“The longer my team stays in the tournament and the deeper we go into the playoffs and finals, the more chances I will get to score centuries and achieve whatever records I want to break. So, it will benefit both me personally and the team.”
Suryavanshi has enjoyed a fantastic IPL 2026 campaign. The 15-year-old has scored 680 runs in 15 innings at an average of 45.33 and a strike rate of 242.85, which includes one century and four half-centuries. He has hit 55 fours and 65 sixes in just 280 balls.
