This time a South African becomes the victim of Ravi Shastri’s ice cream commentary

A moment caught the attention of the spectators amid Team India’s struggle on the fourth day of the second Test against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati (Tuesday, November 25). Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri made a funny comment when a fan was enjoying ice cream in the stands.

On the fourth day, Ravindra Jadeja removed the South African openers, and Washington Sundar sent back Temba Bavuma at a low score. However, India is far behind in the second test. The Proteas extended their lead to over 450 runs, leaving almost no chance for the hosts to make a comeback or challenge for victory.

Ravi Shastri produced another entertaining commentary moment when the cameraman shifted focus from the action to a spectator in the stands. The fan was shown eating ice cream on the big screen at the venue.

Shastri jokingly called the supporter a “big fellow” and added humorous lines when the fan enjoyed his behaviour. The episode once again showed that Shastri can make a simple crowd shot memorable, and proved his ability to make anyone instantly famous with his commentary.

“He’s got what looks like a lollipop in his hand, that ice cream. Oh, the big guy is hitting it. He’s wasting no time. He’s looking in every direction. How can he eat that? There he goes. He’s rotating it in his hand. Really giving it a change,” said Shastri.

Last year, during the second Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Ravi Shastri had made similar remarks about a spectator. The clip quickly spread on social media, with many viewers expressing outrage at his comments.

Team India is struggling with both bat and ball in the second test.

At the time of writing, the visitors were 187/4, with Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder at the crease. They are leading by 475 runs. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Tony De Zorzi, who scored 49 runs in 68 balls.

Earlier on the third day of the second Test in Guwahati, India suffered a batting collapse as they were bowled out for just 201 in reply to South Africa’s first innings total of 489.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul added 65 runs for the first wicket. After the dismissal of the openers, India collapsed from 95/1 to 122/7 and lost wickets in quick succession against the South African bowling attack.

Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav made a partnership of 72 runs which took the team beyond 200 runs. South Africa ended the day with 26 runs without loss, taking their total to 314 runs.

South Africa bid for rare Test series win on Indian soil

South Africa took full advantage of batting first and scored a total of 489 runs in its first innings. Senuran Muthusamy scored a century, while Marco Jensen took an aggressive approach and added 93 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets.

India were all out for only 201 runs and took a huge lead of 288 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 58 runs, Washington Sundar contributed 48 runs and Kuldeep Yadav scored 19 runs in 134 balls. Johnson took six wickets for 48 runs, while Simon Harmer took three wickets.

South Africa have strengthened their position in the two-match series and are now aiming to claim a rare Test series win on Indian soil, which they last achieved in 1999–2000, taking a 1–0 lead after their previous 30-run win in Kolkata, their first Test win in India since 2010.
