Kolkata Knight Riders have emptied a huge amount of money from their incredibly big auction purse to bring in Australian 26-year-old all-rounder Cameron Green into their team. Cameron Green surpassed Mitchell Starc’s previous record of Rs 24.75 crore for Kolkata Knight Riders.
The IPL 2026 mini-auction has started, and as per expectations, the most expensive bid of this mini-auction has been placed on 26-year-old Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. After an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders tried their best to acquire the lanky all-rounder for Rs 25.20 crore.
Despite their low purse, Kolkata Knight Riders started the proceedings by bidding for the all-rounder; After this the command was handed over to Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. After the huge increase in bidding, many suggested that CSK conspired to raise the prices to reduce KKR’s purse from theirs.
After this, Kolkata Knight Riders got into tough competition for their most expensive player of the last auction i.e. Venkatesh Iyer. However, they backed out when RCB made a bid of Rs 7 crore for the batting all-rounder. After this, KKR bought New Zealand’s explosive opener and wicketkeeper Finn Allen at his base price.
Cameron Green becomes KKR’s most expensive player at Rs 25.20 crore
Kolkata Knight Riders enter IPL 2026 mini-auction with a huge purse of Rs 64+ crore; For the first time, a team had entered the mini-auction with such a huge amount. Cameron Green was already being predicted to be the most expensive player of this auction.
After being bought for Rs 25.20 crore, Cameron Green became the most expensive player ever for Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise known for making big-scale purchases. He left behind the previous highest bid made for Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
Starc, who was bought for a huge price of Rs 24.75 crore, has been overtaken by Green, and the Australian all-rounder is currently the third most expensive player in the history of the competition.
Cameron Green is now the most expensive foreign player in IPL history
Cameron Green is also officially one of the most expensive foreign players in the history of IPL. Earlier this record was also in the names of fellow Australian players like Pat Cummins and then Mitchell Starc.
Green will now be the most expensive foreign player in IPL; However, as per IPL rules, his net worth is not expected to take him above the maximum fee limit of Rs 18 crore. Even for this cycle of IPL, the highest slab of retention for a cricketer is Rs 18 crore, and hence Cameron Green cannot be paid anything more than that limit.
The amount above the limit of Rs 18 crore will be given to the BCCI’s welfare fund. However, around Rs 25.20 crore will be deducted from the team purse, and the money will not be given to the player either; The money fully and rightfully belongs to BCCI.
