There was a heated clash on the field between Beau Webster and Matthew Wade during the Big Bash League Challenger.

A unique moment during the Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on January 23, when the Hobart Hurricanes bowler clearly showed his dissatisfaction at veteran Australian keeper Matthew Wade. The bowler was Australia international Beau Webster, who was hurling his words loudly around the field to show his anger about the field placement.

The heated moment was caught on camera and the words used by Webster were recorded into the mic. Two Australian cricket legends – Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh – who had come for their commentary duties, were taken by surprise by the incident.

Disagreement on the field between teammates in Big Bash League 2025-26 match

Heated exchanges between opposing teams are common in sports. But heated arguments between players of the same team during a live match are desirable neither from a cricketer’s perspective nor from a fan’s perspective. Gilchrist and Waugh were also shocked by this incident. Waugh felt that Beau Webster should apologize to Wade.

“That’s not a good way to handle it. I’m sure he (Webster) will apologise”, the former Australia captain said during the match.

Gilchrist also did not take the matter lightly. According to him, this scene was not good to watch. “There’s anger brewing here… not a good look,” he said.

Big Bash League match summary

Sydney Sixers won the Big Bash League match comfortably by defending their score, which was a huge score. Batting first, Sixers scored 198/8 runs in the limit of 20 overs.

Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith continued his tremendous form in this match also. The top-order batsman scored another half-century to move closer to 200 runs. After 20 overs of play in the first innings, Sixers have scored 198 runs at the loss of 8 wickets. Smith scored 65 off 43, which included 9 fours and one over-boundary.

Hobart Hurricanes took wickets, but it was too late for them to crack down on the opposition’s batting order. It proved impossible for them to achieve the target of 199 this evening in the Big Bash League.

Beau Webster, angry at Wade over fielding placement, proved costly in this match. He went on to bowl only a few overs and conceded a total of 18 runs without taking any wicket. Riley Meredith was the best bowler for them in the competition, taking 3 wickets in 4 overs. But their bowling efforts also went in vain as the Sixers had the last smile on their faces.

In reply to Sixers’ 198, Hobart Hurricanes were all out for 141 runs in just 17.2 overs. Sydney Sixers won the match by a huge margin of 57 runs, with Joel Davis being the best performer of the game for Sydney.
