Vaibhav Suryavanshi reached the final by scoring a quick half-century in the semi-final against Afghanistan. They faced a tough start from Sebastian Morgan with the new ball and had to stop after the early dismissal of opener Aaron George.
Suryavanshi took the innings forward by forming a big partnership with captain Ayush Mhatre. He picked up the pace towards the end of the powerplay, hitting four fours in the ninth over and putting pressure on the bowlers.
The left-handed batsman completed his half-century in 32 balls and then changed gears. He hit eight fours in the next 23 balls and quickly reached the nineties.
After Mhatre’s dismissal, Suryavanshi remained calm and completed his century. He continued the attack after reaching three figures and hit five consecutive fours off left-arm spinner Ralphie Albert in the 22nd over. Suryavanshi scored 175 runs in 80 balls, which included 15 fours and 15 sixes.
