MS Dhoni has been the most successful captain in world cricket; He remains the only captain to win all three ICC trophies as captain of Team India. He has retired from international cricket and plays only the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the age of 44, Dhoni has defied age with his fitness and has continued to showcase his brilliant cricketing brain on the field during the rich-cash league.

The veteran was recently seen interacting with sports broadcaster, anchor and commentator Jatin Sapru at the Mahi Unplugged event. In this conversation he was asked about many things, like if he ever entered the field of commentary, and also why he never left his hometown Ranchi, as many cricketers do after becoming successful and relocating to the metro city. Despite traveling around the world and spending his time in Chennai during the IPL, he comes back to his city.

While asking this to MS Dhoni, Jatin Sapru might have taken a little dig at Virat Kohli, who hails from Delhi and is now settled in London.

MS Dhoni has a deep connection with Ranchi

Responding to the question, MS Dhoni said, “Well, largely I am a small-town boy and the interesting thing is that in 2004 I made my debut in December and in 2005 in mid-May, I had a little meeting with a senior cricketer.”

“You know, so they asked me, okay, when are you going out of Ranchi? So if someone senior asks, you take it seriously, there must be something. So it’s like, why should I go? So they said, no, living in a small town is not that easy, you know. So I said, no, no, I am very happy there. You know, there is no good reason for me to go out. It is well connected. We have an airport. Yes, there are some flights that take me to Delhi and Mumbai.

‘Now after 20 years, you know, I am still there’- MS Dhoni

“And if I need to go anywhere, I can go from there and it’s very well connected by train too. He just smiled at me and said, OK, we’ll talk about it next year. And now 20 years later, you know, I’m still there. I just love the city. I have great memories of Ranchi.”

“I have seen the city develop in its own way. You know, although I lived in a colony and it was a self-contained colony, it had everything from a hospital to a community hall where films were shown, grounds, libraries, everything cooperated, everything was there. So there is no good reason for me to move out of the colony. And once I started playing cricket, I explored Ranchi more and somehow I liked it.”

MS Dhoni finally said, “You know, I can step out of my house and come back to my house probably 10 times in a day, which is not possible in the metro. You know, I actually spoke to many cricketers living in Mumbai and they were like, if we have to go to the office and not all of them are India players.” Dhoni is often seen enjoying time at his home in Ranchi and also riding a bike while going for practice and driving in the city.
