Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Sarfaraz Khan failed to perform well with the bat against Gujarat Titans (GT) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Fans were disappointed as Chennai Super Kings’ middle-order batsmen failed to score runs in the match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, April 26.
GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision proved beneficial for the visiting team as they took three wickets inside the first five overs during the afternoon’s play. Kagiso Rabada dismantled the Super Kings top order by taking two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj got one wicket.
Impact sub move backfires for CSK as Sarfaraz Khan falls for golden duck
After losing the first two wickets, CSK brought in Sarfaraz Khan as an impact player in place of Urvil Patel, who lasted only 3 balls. This is the second time this season that CSK used their impact sub option within the first four overs after a similar move against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati.
However, the move did not work out as planned. Sarfaraz Khan was out for a golden duck on his very first ball. Mohammed Siraj bowled a short cross-seam delivery and Sarfaraz attempted a pull shot. The ball took the top edge and went high in the air and Jos Buttler completed a comfortable catch.
CSK’s troubles increased rapidly as they lost three wickets in just 8 balls. On a lively Chepauk pitch that offered pace and bounce, Siraj and Rabada dominated the powerplay, reducing the home side to 28/3 and putting them under early pressure.
Sarfaraz Khan is part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 after being signed for โน75 lakh. He has scored 161 runs in 7 matches at an average of 26.83 and strike rate of 169.47. His best performance came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he scored 50 runs in 25 balls.
He started the season well with strong contributions, including 32 off 12 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and 50 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He played useful innings of 25 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and 23 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as well as an inning of 14 runs in 8 balls against Mumbai Indians.
Khan has shown impact in the field with notable catches, including a diving attempt and his first “Superman” catch of the season. However, his recent form has suffered. He registered a golden duck against Gujarat Titans.
