Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise has announced the replacement for its injured fast bowler David Payne. The fast bowler has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the ongoing IPL 2026 due to injury. In place of the injured fast bowler, SRH picked another fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for the remainder of the IPL 2026 season. IPL had shared an official release regarding this on April 18.
Sunrisers Hyderabad selected Gerald Coetzee as an injury replacement for David Payne. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for David Payne for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, an official statement said.
Gerald Coetzee has played many IPL matches in the past
Gerald Coetzee has prior experience in highly competitive leagues. The South African international fast bowler has played 14 IPL games in the past, representing Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), and has taken 15 IPL wickets. He will join the Hyderabad-based franchise for a price of Rs 2 crore. The right-arm fast bowler has played 4 Tests, 14 ODIs and 18 T20 matches for South Africa and has 67 international wickets to his name.
On 16 April, it was reported that David Payne has been ruled out of the current Indian Premier League campaign due to an ankle injury. The seamer played only a few matches and took 2 wickets, before opting out of the season. He played the first two matches of SRH.
Payne joined the camp as a replacement for Australian fast Jack Edwards, who missed the season due to a foot injury. Now, due to another injury scare, the franchise has secured the services of Gerald Coetzee to replace Payne.
Payne got 2 wickets in two matches, but these proved costly. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he gave away 35 runs in 3 overs and against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) he could not take any wicket, giving away 35 runs in two overs.
SRH had to replace another injured foreign player in IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad had to announce another replacement as their English fast bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse was out with a shock during the net session. In place of Carse, the franchise announced the signing of Sri Lankan fast Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement.
Concerns remain over their captain and leading fast bowler Pat Cummins as he is yet to play his first IPL 2026 match for SRH. But on a good note, Cricket Australia reported that Pat Cummins is set to join the IPL franchise soon after undergoing a scan of his back in Sydney.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is all set to take on Chennai Super Kings
In the absence of Cummins, Ishan Kishan is commanding the team as acting captain. Under his leadership, Hyderabad is fifth in the points table with two wins from five matches. They won their previous game against Rajasthan Royals and will play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground Hyderabad on Saturday.
