Sanju Samson scored unbeaten 115 runs in just 56 balls, which included 15 fours and four sixes. After reaching his century, Samson smiled and tipped his imaginary cap towards head coach Stephen Fleming.
“That’s what I think about Fleming. I think I know how tough it can be. I think leading a franchise for the last five years, I know how mentally challenging it can be. So I think I just wanted to dedicate it to my coach,” Samson said.
Fleming backed Samson after the wicketkeeper-batsman struggled in his first three matches. Samson could score only 22 runs in those three matches.
I think I am very happy to be here – Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson said that joining the new franchise was challenging, but Chennai Super Kings made him feel like home. He appreciated the calm and supportive atmosphere and said that the team remained relaxed even after three defeats, which made him happy.
“It’s not easy to start a tournament like this in a different franchise, but it never felt like it was a different franchise. I think it’s like coming into a second home. I think the people are very sweet, very nice.”
“And everyone is very calm and relaxed. Even after losing three games in a row, we only had a 50-second meeting today. I think that shows how calm the franchise is and it really connects to the person I am. So I think I’m very happy to be here,” Samson said.
