The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has seen another controversy so far, the Indian team has filed a complaint with the ICC match referee. According to the Indian Express, the Indian officials are unhappy with the ball-changes process and have accused the match officials of taking England’s side in the selection of replacement balls.
Duke’s ball has been a topic of discussion in the series between India and England. Players from both sides have lost their size on the ball and softened very quickly in the innings. The ball had to be replaced twice during the morning session at 3 on the day of Lord’s Test.
India Command in Lord’s before a change in controversial ball
India appeared under control during the third test in India, when Jasprit Bumrah triggered a collapse. He rejected Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Chris Woakes in only 14 delivery, making England to 271/7. However, the speed changed after the second new ball lost size within 10 overs.

According to the ICC guidelines, the replacement ball must match the original in terms of use. However, the new ball effectively failed to swing or seam, allowing England to recover. Both Jamie Smith and Bridan Cars scored half a century, giving India a chance to take the first innings lead.
Espncricinfo reported that the original second new ball an average of 1.869 degree swing and 0.579 degrees seam movement, while the replacement reached only 0.855 degrees, although it offered the same seam similar to 0.594 degrees. India finally lost the match by a narrow margin of 22 runs.
India increases ball change concerns with match referee
According to the Indian Express, the Indian team management has expressed concern over ball-changes processes with a match referee. India feels that the replacement protocol has not been followed properly and England can be favored.
“In Lord’s, after about 10 overs, Duke’s ball lost its size, something that is happening so many times in the series. The ball failed to pass through the rings that take the umpires to the field whether the ball is equally circular. However, the umpires did not have a ball, which was 10 overs, so the Indian team was a ball for a ball.
“Check the scoreboard on how the game changed after that. The bowlers lost their swing and England scored easily.”
Given the ’30 -35-over-old ball ‘at Lord’s, the team confirms the officer
An Indian team official said that Duke Ball lost its size in just 10 overs, and the umpires handed over a replacement ball to India that appeared in about 30-35 overs.
“When you ask for a change in a ball, you cannot be told about the age of replacement that you are getting. In Lord’s, we were not told that the replacement would be 30 to 35 overs. If we were told, we must have continued with the deformed balls used for 10 overs. ICC needs to intervene. This rule needs to be changed,” he said.
India has been designed to face England in the fifth and final test of the series starting on 31 July. After the fourth test at Old Trafford ended in a draw, India’s hopes of winning the series collapsed. However, a win in the final match at the Oval will allow them to level the series and avoid defeat.
