Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed was overjoyed as he took a dig at critics after his team’s historic first ODI series win over Australia. On 11 June, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 5 wickets via DLS method in the 2nd ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka to take an unassailable 2–0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series.

Earlier, Bangladesh had created history against Australia by winning the first ODI by 86 runs through the DLS method. Following the historic ODI series win over the six-time World Cup champions, Taskin was proud of the manner in which they won at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Amidst the celebrations, ICC sentenced Nahid Rana after a heated argument with Josh Inglis.

Taskin Ahmed silences critics after Bangladesh’s historic first ODI series win over Australia

Over the years, Bangladesh’s home wins have often been downplayed due to the slow and low pitches of Dhaka. But the current Australia series changed that story completely. The Tigers defeated the Kangaroos on a suitable surface where both batting and bowling had a good chance.

Due to this, Taskin Ahmed has emphasized that Bangladesh’s performance should be judged only by the quality and skill of its cricket. Hitting out at critics, the fast bowler said Bangladesh’s first ODI series win over Australia is a ‘great achievement’ and one of the proudest moments in their history as it did not come on a “paddy field”.

“No one can say anything about the wicket this time. We are playing on a good wicket. This is not a paddy field, okay? We are playing on a good wicket and beating a good team. So, it is a big achievement. Alhamdulillah, it is a great feeling. It feels really good,” Taskin Ahmed told reporters in Dhaka, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Taskin Ahmed lauds Bangladesh’s biggest achievement

After losing three wickets early in the match, the Australian team fought back and managed to post a competitive score of 187/8 in 42 overs. But Bangladesh’s bowlers continued to attack before the batsmen could win the match and Taskin believed the result showed how much they had improved.

This series will always remain one of the most special memories of Taskin’s career. “It’s very memorable. Not just for me, but for everyone. Because this is the first time we have won a series against them,” he said.

“The comforting thing is that we won playing on good wickets and playing good cricket. They may be missing three or four players, but Australia still have the ability to play good cricket on good wickets. We won playing good cricket and that is the most satisfying thing.”

Taskin Ahmed gave a big warning to his rivals

The right-arm fast bowler also talked about Bangladesh’s growing strength in fast bowling. He suggested that visiting teams may now think twice before preparing seaming tracks as Bangladesh’s pace attack is developed enough to trouble stronger opponents even in those conditions.

He believes that Bangladesh’s fast bowling attack is now one of the best and can become even stronger if the players stay fit and continue to perform with confidence and consistency. Amidst ODI activities, Bangladesh announced the squads for the T20I and Test series against Australia.

Taskin said, “I believe we are performing at a level worthy of being in the top three. If Allah keeps everyone healthy and in form, we can do well. But perhaps teams will think twice before preparing seaming wickets. At least a little bit.”
