T20 World Cup dream shattered, former Indian star completely exposed England’s weaknesses

Former India opener Aakash Chopra revealed England’s weakest position ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Chopra has doubts over England’s potential performance in the tournament, pointing out potential issues that could plague the team during the title race.

Aakash Chopra said that England’s bowling line-up is not as organized as compared to their batting unit. More than the batting direction, it is the English bowling unit that forced the former Indian cricketer to question his performance during the T20 World Cup.

Jofra Archer can be a boomerang for the England cricket team

Speaking in this YouTube channel video, Chopra said that fast bowling can give a lot of trouble to the England cricket team during the tournament, mainly due to Jofra Archer. Archer is a proven fast bowler who can take quick wickets if he is in form, which will be very good for the team. But Akash questioned the pacers’ inconsistency. He said that a poor form Archer could prove disastrous for the team.

“Overall the bowling unit is OK, OK. It doesn’t give you too much confidence. Josh Tongue, T20 career – OK, OK. Jamie Overton is good, but I don’t know. Adil Rashid, maybe he’s at his peak, but I find him a very good bowler,” Chopra said in his YouTube video.

“Jofra Archer, if he’s hot, he’s super hot, but when he’s cold, he’s very cold. So that could be a cause for concern.”

Chopra also raised questions on England’s bowling combination

Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood, Jamie Overton and Sam Curran are the fast bowlers in England’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. For spin bowling duties, he has selected Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson, Will Jacks and Jacob Bethel for the high-pressure task. Apart from Rashid and Ahmed, the remaining three are primarily batting all-rounders who can do wonders in a few overs with the ball.

Chopra also threw light on England’s batting order. He believes that apart from Harry Brook and the opening batsmen, most of the batsmen may have to perform outside their actual position, which may have a negative impact on the team’s performance.

disorganized batting order

“Except Harry Brook and the openers, it seems like everyone is playing out of position. So that could be a potential banana skin or a weakness. So that could definitely be a problem for this team. The spin bowling is also fine, okay. The overall bowling department is not that good. So England’s problem could be their bowling,” Aakash Chopra told PTI.

In the T20 World Cup 2026, England have been placed in Group C along with West Indies, Nepal, Scotland and Italy. Chopra also said that the England cricket team may face serious challenges during the eighth round after the group stage.
