Suryakumar Yadav’s return to India possible, but on one condition: Report

Despite being out of the T20I format, Suryakumar Kumar can make a comeback and represent the Indian national cricket team. Without any formality, the men’s selection committee appointed Shreyas Iyer as India’s captain for the T20I format, replacing Suryakumar Yadav.

It was a surprise move by the selectors as Suryakumar had led the team to the 2026 T20 World Cup title. Earlier, it was reported that the team management and selectors were not happy with the Mumbai-born player’s poor form.

Suryakumar Yadav can make a comeback with Team India

It was said that the selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar dropped him from the team due to his poor form over a long period of time. He was left out of India’s tour of the UK, where the team, led by newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer, suffered 2–0 T20 series defeats against Ireland and 4–0 defeats against England.

According to the latest report, amid India’s recent failures in T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav has an opportunity to make a comeback into the team if he can score a significant number of runs in domestic cricket.

ANI reporter Vipul Kashyap claims on ‘X’, “The doors are still open for Surya; He is not in the plans at the moment but is eligible for a comeback if he continues to score runs in domestic cricket: Source.”

Why was Suryakumar Yadav dropped from the team?

Suryakumar faced a tough time with the bat a few months after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup tournament. Even in the tournament, the middle-order batsmen mostly performed poorly. He looked in good form during India’s opening match of the tournament against the USA cricket team.

Against the USA cricket team, the Men in Blue were surprisingly under pressure after losing early wickets. At a time when most of the batsmen in the line-up were out cheaply, Suryakumar made the difference by scoring 84 off 49. This match was on 7th February this year. After his inning of 84 runs, he failed to do anything special with the bat. Suryakumar Yadav had to struggle to get his form back for the Mumbai Indians team in IPL 2026. Since he was far behind with the bat, the selectors dropped him
