Indian national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav, while talking to journalists in Australia, has taken a fresh dig at the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy.

Suryakumar Yadav’s cheeky jibe comes at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is on the verge of resolving the Asia Cup 2025 issue with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Mohsin Naqvi snatched India’s trophy

Team India won the recent edition of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the leadership of former world No. 1 batsman Suryakumar Yadav.

The Men in Blue played good cricket in the competition and despite not performing at their best, they easily managed to become Asia Cup 2025 champions.

India remained unbeaten throughout the competition to win the title and on the way to victory, they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in three consecutive matches, including the final, in the Asia Cup 2025.

After India humiliated Pakistan three times in a row, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was not happy, and he wanted to do something that would make some people notice him.

Notably, India refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi due to India-Pakistan tensions, leading to him running away with the trophy from the venue. Since then, they have kept the trophy with them and have refused to return it to India despite several warnings.

It feels great to finally touch the trophy – Suryakumar Yadav

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav-led India won another trophy by defeating Australia 2-1 in the five-match T20 series. Speaking after the series, Suryakumar Yadav jokingly said that he felt great touching the trophy.

Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference, “It feels great to finally touch the trophy. I felt like that when I was handed the trophy for the series win. A few days ago, another trophy had come to India, our women’s team has won the World Cup. That trophy has also come home. It feels great and it also feels good to touch this trophy.”

ICC organized a separate meeting between me and PCB chief Devjit Saikia

On the same day that Suryakumar Yadav took a jibe at the Asia Cup issue, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia revealed that he has had a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi and the issue of the Asia Cup trophy will be resolved in the coming days.

“I was part of both informal and formal ICC meetings. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the formal meeting, it was not on the agenda, but the ICC arranged a separate meeting between me and the PCB chief in the presence of a senior ICC official and another senior official,” Saikia told PTI on Saturday.

“It was really good to start the dialogue process. Both sides participated cordially in the meeting held on the sidelines of the ICC Board meeting,” he said. He assured that a solution would be found soon.

“Definitely, in the times to come, if things move in a positive manner, the issue will be resolved as soon as possible,” Saikia said.
