India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decline in form has become the biggest talking point ahead of the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia starting from October 29 in Canberra. Suryakumar Yadav, once considered one of the most destructive T20 batsmen in the world, now finds himself struggling with poor form and increasing criticism.

In 2025, the Indian captain’s numbers have been worryingly low, scoring only 100 runs in 11 T20I innings at an average of 11.11. The decline of batsman Suryakumar, who has scored more than 300 T20 innings and almost 9,000 runs in his career, has left fans and experts stunned.

Suryakumar Yadav’s form is a matter of great concern before Australia T20I.

Even in India’s successful Asia Cup 2025 campaign, the star batsman’s contribution with the bat was well below expectations. He scored only 72 runs in six innings at a strike rate of just 104.22. What makes the story even more dramatic is the sharp contrast between their recent form in India and their stellar IPL 2025 season.

Just a few months ago, he was at his peak for Mumbai Indians, scoring 717 runs at a strike rate of 167.9. But since then, things have gone haywire.

With the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 taking place next year, Suryakumar’s form ahead of the Australia T20I has suddenly become one of the biggest concerns of the team. The selectors and management have been continuously supporting him and now the captain has also defended himself.

Suryakumar Yadav confident of making impact on Australia tour

Ahead of the much-awaited T20I series between India and Australia, Suryakumar looked calm and determined, dispelling concerns about his recent poor form. Despite suffering a string of low scores recently, the Indian skipper was focused on regaining his rhythm with the bat.

The 35-year-old batsman, who is known for his fearless batting style and explosive stroke play, shared that he has been working hard at home and is confident that his hard work will soon translate into runs. The right-handed batsman is expected to make a big impact in Australia.

“I feel like I have been working really hard. It’s not that I wasn’t working hard earlier; I was working hard then too. And I’m still working hard. I’ve had some good sessions at home and 2-3 good sessions here,” Suryakumar Yadav said in the pre-match press conference.

So, I’m in a good place. I think that’s really important. Runs, it will come eventually. But I think we will have to work hard to achieve the team goal. It’s more important what the team wants from you in different situations, and I focus on one game at a time. If it starts then I think it will be a good thing.

Suryakumar Yadav gives positive update on Shreyas Iyer

The Indian captain also shared an update on Shreyas Iyer, who is suffering from a life-threatening rib injury during the third and final ODI against Australia in Sydney.

Suryakumar said, “He is recovering. He is answering us on the phone, which means he is absolutely fine.”
