Suryakumar Yadav praised Sameer Rizvi’s brilliant performance against MI in IPL 2026.

The Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) entered the first double header on Saturday, when Delhi Capitals (DC) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Both the teams entered this match after winning their first match of IPL 2026. DC/MI beat MI/DC by _____ runs/wickets. DC won the toss and decided to field first.

DC went into the match with an unchanged XI from their win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, MI made three changes, one of them a forced change, as their regular captain Hardik Pandya was unavailable due to illness, and Suryakumar Yadav took over the reins for the franchise.

Hardik Pandya misses DC vs MI match

The other two changes were Deepak Chahar in place of Pandya, Corbin Bosch in place of Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner in place of Allah Ghazanfar.

MI started well with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma; However, after Mukesh Kumar got success, the former player returned to the pavilion. In the same over, Mukesh deceived Tilak Verma with a slower ball as the southpaw returned without opening the account.

MI were in trouble at 18/2 and then the two most experienced players, Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav, took charge and built a partnership for the five-time champions. However, with Rohit Sharma out for 35, Axar Patel gave DC the much-needed breakthrough and at one point MI’s score was 71/3.

Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century was not enough

Suryakumar Yadav was the leading scorer with a score of 51 runs. Surya and Naman Dhir took charge after the 15th over and scored quickly as Sky scored a half-century in 35 balls and came back soon after scoring the half-century, with Lungi Ngidi providing the wicket to DC.

Later Naman and Mitchell Santner tried to score runs aggressively and the former scored 28 runs. Santner’s short knock of 18 runs off 13 balls and Corbyn Bosch’s 11 runs off 4 balls helped MI post 162/6 in their 20 overs.

Sameer Rizvi is a hero for DC

Set to chase, DC opener KL Rahul returned to the pavilion for just one run, and then Nitish Rana was also back on duck, while Jasprit Bumrah produced a sensational run out to dismiss the southpaw for duck on three balls. After this Pathum Nissanka and Sameer Rizvi formed a partnership.

The first was hitting at a good pace. DC made a partnership of 66 runs for the third wicket with Pathum Nissanka and Sameer Rizvi. Nissanka was out on the score of 44 runs. Rizvi then took charge and scored a brilliant half-century; This was his second consecutive half-century in IPL 2026. Rizvi scored 90 runs in 51 balls, in which he hit 7 sixes and as many fours. After the DC vs MI match, DC is now on top of the table.

Not much change in pitch- Suryakumar Yadav

After the defeat, Suryakumar Yadav said, “The wicket was good, we expected it to be slow. We were 15-20 runs short, don’t want to take credit away from our bowlers and Rizvi. A lot of credit to him, he never let us back into the game.”

“The pitch didn’t change too much, he understood the conditions and batted beautifully. When batting first, there is no such thing as a par score. We felt 180-185 was a good score. Naman and I got out at the wrong time. There will be days with the ball, one has to go back to the drawing board and come back better.
