Suryakumar Yadav-led India will take on Pakistan in a 2026 T20 World Cup Group A match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Both the teams are gearing up for a blockbuster clash on the weekend. It will be a battle of the spinners in Sri Lanka, with the pitch expected to be slow and the boundaries big.
Before the match, Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav was caught bowling in the nets during the net session on Saturday. The captain was bowling to Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh, so there is an outside possibility that he may bowl in the game as well. However, it was observed that he was bowling in a unique action, pausing before releasing the ball, an action similar to Usman Tariq.
When Suryakumar Yadav was reported for suspicious action
Surya, who was first reported in 2014, was bowling in a Champions League T20 match for Kolkata Knight Riders against Chennai Super Kings. During that time, he became the fifth bowler to be reported for questionable action during the tournament. He was followed by teammate Sunil Narine, Dolphins’ Prennelan Subraine, and Lahore Lions’ Adnan Rasool and Mohammad Hafeez.
Suryakumar Yadav does not bowl regularly and was accused by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Kumar Dharmasena as well as third umpire S Ravi. After reviewing the video of the match. The umpires said that he bowled with his elbow bent which was beyond the limits of the rules.
Suryakumar Yadav rotates India’s Usman Tariq in the nets before India vs Pakistan match
Suryakumar Yadav, who was once again seen bowling with an unorthodox action last night, looked like India were preparing especially for Usman Tariq, who bowls with a similar action and pauses before delivering the ball. His action has been questioned and solutions have been given as to how the batsmen will deal with him.
During the press conference on Saturday, SKY gave a statement on how the Indian team is planning to deal with unconventional bowlers like Usman Tariq. He took reference from the exam that certain questions come out of the syllabus, and how people handle them without skipping or ignoring them.

Suryakumar Yadav said, “See, sometimes there is a question in the exam which is out of the syllabus. Therefore, we cannot leave that question. To deal with it, you will have to make some effort. You will have to adopt your own method. And we also make the same effort.”
Sky further added, “Yes, he (Usman Tariq) has a different character when he comes to bowl. But at the same time, we cannot give up. We practice with bowlers of the same type and with the same action. And we will try to execute what we are practicing in the net sessions during the match.”
Osman Tariq, a chakar? Spinner’s controversial past revealed
Usman Tariq has been sensational for Pakistan since his debut. He has taken 11 wickets at an average of 7.90 in four T20Is, and holds the record for taking wickets in 23 consecutive matches whenever he has been a part of the team, the most by any Pakistani bowler. Usman Tariq has an extra elbow on his bowling arm, making it look like chucking.
Tariq has passed two biomechanical tests in Lahore and passed both times. Despite the controversies, he has the right to bowl. However, there is a possibility that if the batsman moves away from the crease he may be questioned, saying that he is staying longer than is within the rules. It will be interesting to see if a batsman does this during a high intensity game.
