Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened his recovery from a sports Hernia ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which is going to start in UAE from 9 September. Surya revealed that the injury was detected at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where she played for Mumbai Indians (MI).
Suryakumar Yadav enjoyed his best IPL season with Mumbai Indians in 2025. The right-handed batsman ended as the second largest run-run-gate in the tournament. After the tournament, he underwent surgery for a sports hernia. Suryakumar will lead the national team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

In a video shared by BCCI, Suryakumar Yadav said that he had to face a similar issue last year. The Indian T20I captain thanked the medical staff for his guidance and demonstrated his return to full fitness through training and batting sessions.

“I’m feeling good right now. It’s up to five to six weeks. Good process, good routines and fingers have crossed for the last six weeks. Really feel well. It’s really feeling well. [the sports hernia injury] In fact, close to the end of the IPL was diagnosed, ”said Suryakumar.
He said, “I felt this because I had a similar injury last year and I came to know like this. So there were some checklists. I tried those things and then I realized that it’s time to do a small MRI and do it,” he said.

Suryakumar Yadav said that he planned his recovery step by step and said that the coach and physio did a workouts for their body needs. The 34 -year -old will captain India for the first time in a leading tournament.
“When i did [the scans], [the injury] It was very clear in it. I posted it IPL, went to Germany. And it really went well how it happened last year. And I knew how the recovery is going to step by step. So I was ready for everything. So we took a week’s time at a time. And we are here and I feel good, ”said Suryakumar.
“I think the most important thing for me is that when you come to COE or when I was here in NCA last year, they understood how my body reacts to some situations. So all strength and conditioning coaches and physics understand how his body works and accordingly he planned all workouts.”
He said, “All this was instantaneous. As soon as I used to hit the gym and I came here, they used to plan sessions. And in this way we are a week in a week and slowly in a week but continuously we are here,” he said.

Suryakumar Yadav last seen in action in T20 Mumbai League
Suryakumar Yadav was last seen in action for Triumph Nights MNE in T20 Mumbai League. His team launched a disappointing campaign and failed to knockout.
During the IPL 2025, Yadav scored 717 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 167.71 and on an average above 65, which included five half -centuries with a top score of 73*. He became the first MI batsman to cross 700 runs in the same season, with Sachin Tendulkar’s long -standing Tally from 2010 to 618.
