The India national cricket team has been flying high in T20 International (T20I) cricket, but captain Suryakumar Yadav has openly said that he is not completely satisfied with where things stand at the moment.
Suryakumar Yadav clearly stated that “there is no such thing as covering all the bases” and a team needs to constantly work hard to achieve perfection in T20Is.
India beats Australia 2-1 in T20 series
The Men in Blue have played remarkable cricket in T20Is and have achieved tremendous success over the years.
They won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 without losing any match under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and since then, India has been a dominant force in world cricket.
India have now won each of the seven T20I series since June 2024 and lost just four matches while winning 26. They have won series against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, England and Australia.
Furthermore, India remained unbeaten in the Asia Cup 2025 and became the Asia Cup champions once again by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan on three consecutive occasions.
Talking about Australia series, India made a strong comeback after losing the second match by 4 wickets in Melbourne and defeated Australia by 5 wickets in Hobart and by 48 runs in Carrara. Notably, the first T20I in Canberra and the fifth match in Brisbane were rained out; As a result, India won the series 2–1.
I am very fortunate that I have all these boys with different skills – Suryakumar Yadav
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Suryakumar Yadav was asked if India had covered all the bases. Responding to this, Suryakumar said that he is very fortunate that the team currently has players who bring different skills and are completely energetic. He said:
“I’m very fortunate that I have all these boys with different skill sets. They bring very different things to the table. When we talk about bowling, batting and fielding… you see a lot of energy on the field. People enjoy when they go out on the field together.
“But yes, from a batting point of view, definitely what we have been doing in the last six to eight months, I think we are sticking to the same, not changing anything. These guys are doing really well. The way they bat at the top of the order, when they bat together it brings a smile on everyone’s face.”
There’s nothing like covering all the bases – Suryakumar Yadav
However, Suryakumar Yadav further clarified that he would never say that all the bases have been covered as there is always some scope for improvement. He said:
“And also from the bowling point of view, guys are taking responsibility. They have an experienced bowler.” [Jasprit] Bumrah and everyone in the team is interacting with him, learning many skills, tricks and trade of the game, I think it is a good thing. So good friendship is being formed in that too.
“So we’re trying to get there. There’s no such thing as covering all the bases. We always learn from this game, every game we play. Yeah, things are looking good so far, touch wood, let’s keep it going.”
