Indian cricket fans finally saw the real Suryakumar Yadav again and the change came not from practice or the dressing room, but from home. After a long, tough spell, the India T20 captain got his rhythm back in Raipur, thanks to simple advice from his wife Devisha Shetty.

Suryakumar Yadav caught his rhythm with the advice of his wife!

Suryakumar Yadav was struggling for runs for a long time. Even though the stylish batsman was batting well in the nets, he was not able to score runs for the Blues. Given this, his confidence was low, the pressure was high, and every game tested his place in the team.

However, the Indian captain somehow found a way to make a comeback amidst the runs. Instead of forcing his shots, Suryakumar slowed down mentally, stayed away from social media, took good rest and relied on his wife’s advice to take his time while batting.

Masterclass in Raipur: The long wait for 82 runs in 37 balls is over

India were 6/2 in just 1.1 overs and were feeling the pressure, but Suryakumar managed to turn the situation around. They didn’t try to hit everything from the beginning. He remained calm, focused on each ball and slowly built his innings and that helped India get back into the game.

Ishan Kishan (76 runs on 32 balls) stayed at the other end and attacked the bowlers and took the score forward. Suryakumar and Kishan added 122 runs in just 48 balls for the third wicket. This partnership helped India defeat New Zealand by seven wickets in the second T20I in Raipur, where Suryakumar scored only 11 runs from his first 11 balls, but after settling down he started hitting freely.

He completed his half-century in just 23 balls. In the end, the Indian captain played a brilliant inning of 82 runs in just 37 balls with the help of nine fours and four sixes. This was Suryakumar’s first T20I half-century in 468 days, ending a wait of 24 innings. His last half-century came in October 2024.

“Sometimes it happens. When we go home, there is a coach sitting at our house too. To whom you are married. She keeps asking me to take some time. She has seen me from the closest, so she knows what’s on my mind as well. So, I followed her advice and played carefully by thinking about taking some time in my innings. I did the same in the last match and this match too,” Suryakumar said in a video posted by BCCI on Instagram.

The Indian captain said, “I have been telling people that I am batting well in the nets. But unless you score in the matches, you don’t feel that confidence. I got a good rest of 2-3 days, I went home and completely distanced myself from social media. I practiced well in the last three weeks, so I kept myself in the right mindset.”
