Indian national cricket team’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was also not spared by the fans after his flop show in the first match of the five-match series against the South Africa national cricket team.
The Indian captain did not look comfortable in the middle and was dismissed for 12 runs by South Africa national cricket team fast bowler Lungi Ngidi at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
Suryakumar Yadav failed once again in T20I cricket
Since becoming the T20I captain, Suryakumar has not looked the same batsman as before. Since becoming the captain, his batting form has declined significantly and he is not able to play good innings.
The right-handed batsman has tried everything, but has not managed to play high-impact innings for the India national cricket team in the format he once dominated.
Suryakumar, a former world No. 1 batsman, was clean bowled by Lungi Ngidi in the third over of the match. On the fourth ball of the over, Ngidi bowled a long ball to the batsman on the off stump.
Suryakumar tried to chip it through the line at mid-on, but his timing on this was very poor and he was caught by Aiden Markram.
In his last 24 T20I innings, he has registered scores of 20(10), 1(4), 39*(24), 1(5), 12(13), 5(11), 0(3), 47*(37), 7*(2), 2(3), 0(4), 14(7), 12(7), 0(3), 1(4), 4(9). 21(17), 75(35), 8(10), 29(14), 8(9), 26(12), 58(26), and 12(11).
Overall in T20Is in 2025, Suryakumar has scored just 196 runs in 16 innings at an average of 15.07 and a strike rate of 126.45, with a highest score of 47*.

He has been failing more and more since the day he was appointed captain
The World Cup is 2 months away and you are still counting on Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav while proven champions like Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad are sitting out???? pic.twitter.com/UUPj7xqEFw

Suryakumar Yadav was out on 12 runs. He failed in the Asia Cup, failed in the Australia series, failed in this match. The captaincy is saving them. He has become a burden for this team. Continuous failure from so many matches.
bad batting #INDvSA– Mahi (@Mahi27238905) 9 December 2025
Another fraud occurred!
Suryakumar Yadav was out in the same style after scoring 12(11) runs, just after Shubman Gill.
There are barely 2 months left for the World Cup to begin and the two people with the worst statistics at the moment are the captain and vice-captain of the team.
Very good . Just wow.

Suryakumar Yadav’s journey in international cricket is almost complete.
Very powerless cricketer, he has 0 straight shots. None of his sixes go further than 90 metres.#INDvsSA #Sky– Mantisshr (@Mantisshr) 9 December 2025

It is true that if you look at batsman Suryakumar Yadav, he needs runs – Parthiv Patel
Speaking on Star Sports before the match, former wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel said that Suryakumar needs to make a comeback among the runs. He elaborated:
“It is true that if you look at the batsman Suryakumar Yadav, runs are needed. He got starts in Australia and we got some glimpses. We have seen some innings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well, but those big runs have not come.”
“Talking about the leg-side, the flick is his favorite shot. He is quick to the length and is very sharp in his footwork. If we look at his scoring areas, 50 per cent of his bowling comes from the leg-side area.
“Most of the shots you hit in those areas are outside balls bowled into the stumps. That means you are taking a lot of risks. I think he should take some time off, and if that happens, we will see him scoring runs on the leg side again.”
