Amidst the tension between India and Pakistan, the ‘no handshake’ stance has come to the fore again as both the rival countries will once again face each other on the cricket field, and this is for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Will India take a step forward to join hands with Pakistan cricket team?
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav had to face this question before the India vs Pakistan match to be held in Colombo on Sunday 15 February. Instead of giving a clear, direct answer, Yadav decided to continue the suspension. In response he said, “Wait for 24 hours. Eat well, sleep well, see tomorrow.”

The much-awaited India vs Pakistan match is all set to take place after a lot of drama. The off-field drama continued for weeks. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Government of Pakistan were threatened not to take the field to show solidarity with Bangladesh.
Then, the International Cricket Council (ICC) arranged a meeting to defuse the situation. The meeting between the ICC and PCB took place in the presence of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) representatives as they were at the center of the stage. The PCB, under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi, who is also a Pakistan minister, went against the ICC after the ICC had pulled the Bangladesh cricket team out of the elite tournament.
Why did ICC exclude Bangladesh from T20 World Cup 2026?
Bangladesh did not want to travel to India to play T20 World Cup matches citing ‘safety’ concerns of its players. Eventually, before the general elections in Bangladesh, the PCB reconsidered its boycott decision.
Diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan worsened after Operation Sindoor in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam during the Asia Cup 2025.
After those two incidents, when India went to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 on several occasions, Suryakumar Yadav and his boys refused to shake hands with the Pakistan cricket team, adding another layer of tension between India and Pakistan.
Suryakumar Yadav replied in a very style
Will India continue its no handshake policy in the T20 World Cup 2026? Suryakumar Yadav had to face this question before the match. In response the captain said, “Wait 24 hours. Eat well, sleep well and we will see you tomorrow.”
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga also had to face a similar question. Aga said, “We want the game to be played in good spirit. The game should be played as it has been played from the beginning. The toss cannot decide the game. If you play good cricket, you will win. Cricket will matter, toss will not matter.”
