India national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav set the stage on fire in Canberra with another explosive display of power hitting in the first game of the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia on Wednesday (October 29).
During the first T20I against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav etched his name in the record books by becoming only the second Indian player and fifth player in the world after Rohit Sharma to hit more than 150 sixes in T20 International cricket.

Rain disrupted Canberra T-20 match
Meanwhile, rain played havoc in Canberra as the first match of the five-match T20 series between India and Australia ended in disappointment just when the game was heating up. India looked to be completely in control before the weather turned.
The visitors got off to a great start, with Abhishek Sharma giving India quick runs by hitting early boundaries before falling for 19. His short but lively innings created an atmosphere. After the first rain, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav took charge and stitched a breathtaking partnership of 62 runs in just 35 balls.

Suryakumar was in his element, smashing boundaries with ease and finding gaps all over the park, while Gill played the perfect supporting role. Before the skies opened up again in Canberra, India were 97 for 1 in just 9.4 overs and looked set for a huge total.
Despite several inspections and some hope from the crowd, the rain refused to stop, forcing the umpires to abandon the match in Canberra. This was heartbreaking for fans who had expected an exciting encounter between the top two teams. Now, the action will shift to Melbourne for the second T20I on October 31.
Suryakumar Yadav silenced his critics after his explosive innings in Canberra.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav was going through a tough phase with the bat, before his brilliant innings of 39* off 24 balls in Canberra. Suryakumar, known for his explosive 360-degree stroke play, has struggled to find his rhythm recently.
During the Asia Cup 2025, the Indian captain could only score 72 runs at an average of 18 in six innings. However, he led India to the title in UAE. His unorthodox shots – the scoop, paddle and upper cut – that once made him unbeatable have not had the same success in recent times.
Overall, 2025 has been a quiet year for the star batsman. In 11 innings, he has scored only 100 runs at an average of 11, which is well below his usual standards. His numbers as captain have also declined – he averages 25.2 in 29 matches while leading the team, while he averages 43.4 in 61 matches playing as a batsman.
