The fourth T20 match of the five-match series between the Suryakumar Yadav-led India national cricket team and the Mitchell Marsh-led Australia national cricket team was played on Thursday, 6 November.
Team India won the match against Team Australia by 48 runs at the Gold Coast Stadium (Carrara) in Gold Coast. The fifth and last match will be played in Brisbane on Saturday 8 November.
India uses chaotic batting order against Australia
The Gautam Gambhir-led team management has made it clear to the players that the batting position will not be fixed for anyone except the opening batsmen in the T20 playing XI.
Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill have been guaranteed places at the top, while the rest of the batting order has been significantly reshuffled. There is no stability in the Indian T20I batting order as the coaching staff wants the players to be adaptable.
This chaotic batting line-up did India no favors in the fourth T20I as they could only score 167/8 runs on the board. Abhishek Sharma (28), Shubman Gill (46) and Shivam Dubey (22), who was promoted to number 3, could not score runs quickly.
Suryakumar Yadav (20) and Axar Patel (21*) scored quickly, while Washington Sundar scored a crucial 12 runs as India posted a respectable total on the board.
Credit to all the batsmen, especially Abhishek and Shubman-Suryakumar Yadav.
Defending the total, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dubey, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel took at least one wicket each as India bowled out Australia for 119 in 18.2 overs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav attributed the win to the slow innings of Shubman Gill (46 off 39) and Abhishek Sharma (28 off 21). He said:
“Credit to all the batsmen, especially Abhishek and Shubman. The way they started in the powerplay was smart, they realized early on that it was not a normal wicket for 200+. Everyone contributed and it was a complete team effort with the bat.”
The messages were clear even from outside, Gauti Bhai and I were on the same page – Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav further said that the bowlers did a great job and all took wickets and praised them for their resilience.
Suryakumar Yadav said, “The messages were clear from the outside too, me and Gauti Bhai were on the same thing. The bowlers adapted quickly, especially with some dew. The way they bowled was brilliant. It’s great to have bowlers who can give you two or three overs, and sometimes even four.”
“It depends on the situation, some day Washington bowls four balls, some day Shivam or Arshdeep may bowl less. This flexibility suits us. Everyone is ready to step up and do what the team needs.”
