Team India’s unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup came to an end at the hands of South Africa. South Africa defeated the defending champions by a huge margin of 76 runs in the Super 8 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, one of India’s biggest defeats in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup.
According to the data, this was India’s first defeat in a multi-nation T20I tournament after losing the semi-final against England in Adelaide in the T20 World Cup 2022. After today’s heartbreaking defeat, India captain Suryakumar Yadav vowed to bounce back soon. He praised the bowlers for containing South Africa at crucial moments of the match but criticized the batting.
Suryakumar Yadav praised Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh
“When we started, we were always in the game. Bowled very well in the beginning. From 7-15, they batted really well and then we came back. Bowled really well, but could have batted better,” Suryakumar Yadav said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Suryakumar Yadav praised Bumrah and Singh for their effective bowling spells. Bumrah took 3 wickets in his 4 over spell at an economy rate of 3.75, while Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets giving only 28 runs in 4 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav praised the fast bowling duo, saying, “Everyone knows that their combination has been lethal. Both of them bowled eight overs, took five wickets and gave 45-50 runs. They bowled well in partnership.”
South Africa bounced back
With the new ball, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh dismissed South Africa’s top three batsmen of their lineup. After losing three wickets early, Dewald Brewis (45), David Miller (63) and Tristan Stubbs (44*) took the team out of danger.
Later, after the 16th over, India again found themselves back in the game and restricted South Africa to 187 for 7 in 20 overs.
This target was worth chasing for a team like India, which has a lot of firepower. But it was a bad day for the Indian batsmen, as they hardly put up a fight against the opposition bowlers.
Shivam Dubey was the only player who scored some notable runs and kept the team in the contest for some time. However, South Africa won this match easily under the captaincy of Aiden Markram.
Suryakumar Yadav has promised a strong comeback
The Team India captain said, “Sometimes, you have to think that you can’t win the game in the power play, but you can lose it. We didn’t get the partnerships we wanted. That’s part of the game. We will learn from it. Sit back and bounce back.”
“And it’s good to have him with us. (On planning for the next game in Chennai) Hopefully bat well, bowl well and field well. Keep it simple. That’s what we’ll try to do.”
