Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed concern over the management of Jasprit Bumrah during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Gavaskar urged the BCCI and the chief selector Ajit Agkar to take a clear decision on Pesar’s charge, saying that no player is inconsistent.
Jasprit Bumrah played three out of five Tests as part of a pre-cut plan during the England series. He portrayed the first, third and fourth matches and took 14 wickets, including two five wickets Houles. The decision on his charge management attracted criticism despite plans in advance.

No one is unavoidable – Sunil Gavaskar at Jasprit Bumrah’s charge management
Sunil Gavaskar said that Jasprit Bumrah had informed the selection committee that he could play in only three of the five England tests. He said that there was a debate on whether Bumrah should have been depicted in the important final test at the Oval, given the heavy grass of the pitch.
Gavaskar wrote in his column for mid-day, “No one is unavoidable. That is why the selectors must decide when Jasprit Bumrah should play.
He said, “To be fair, he informed the selection committee that he could play only three of the five Tests. Some heat-generating debate is whether he should have played the final Must-Win Match, especially since it was the longest pitch in the longest time at the Oval,” he said.
There were two clear months to rest and recover for Jasprit Bumrah – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar said that Bumrah has two months to rest and recover before the next Test in October. He said that the team management prioritized the bowler’s long -term fitness on the immediate interests of Indian cricket.
“The next Test match was in early October, and so there were two clear months to relax for him and to recover on time. The Indian team management said that it was not considered their future. This is where the person is good for the person and what is good for Indian cricket, the lines between it became a bit blurred,” Gavaskar said.
For the sake of Indian cricket, Jasprit Bumrah had to play – Sunil Gavaskar
Gavaskar emphasized that Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness should be given priority for Indian cricket. He also told that no player is unavoidable and the game progresses.
“Certainly if he was fit at that level, he had to play for the sake of Indian cricket. Is it his call or not to play the call of the management, but in the end it was once again shown after India’s victory that if it ever needs to know that there is no unavoidable in the game. The game just moves forward.”
