Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is already under pressure ipl 2026 Despite the season having just started. From a struggling bowling attack to a shaky middle-order and a huge selection headache over their ₹25.20 crore signing of Cameron Green, everything seems to be going wrong for them as they have already suffered consecutive defeats.

After the retirement of Andre Russell, Cameron Green was considered to be a big match-winning all-rounder for KKR, who could bat fearlessly and bowl important overs. But the Australian all-rounder has become the biggest question mark of their IPL 2026 campaign.

Cameron Green’s no-bowling situation has become a big headache for KKR in IPL 2026

The drama actually started when Cricket Australia did not allow Green to bowl for Kolkata Knight Riders due to his recent back injury and workload management. Although the franchise knew that Green was recovering, they did not expect him to play solely as a batsman in the beginning.

The Australian fast bowling all-rounder did not bowl against Mumbai Indians (MI) and then against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and KKR was completely off balance.

What’s worse is that Green is not performing well with the bat either. He could only score 18 and 2 runs in the first two matches of this season and that situation has put even more pressure on KKR’s shaky middle order, leaving the team management confused and helpless.

Sunil Gavaskar wants KKR to drop Cameron Green from the eleven

Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar has openly told KKR to stop including Green in the playing eleven until he is ready to bowl. The former Indian captain pointed out that there is no point in playing the Australian star as a specialist batsman if he is not bowling and scoring runs, especially when the middle order already looks weak.

The legendary cricketer even suggested that the three-time IPL champions bring in another proper batsman immediately to avoid further losses this season, as their NRR is already dangerous.

“If Cameron Green doesn’t bowl, KKR will have to think about their combinations. If he is not contributing with the ball, they may have to consider bringing in another specialist batsman,” Star Sports quoted Gavaskar as saying.

We know he has scored centuries in the IPL and he can bat well, but his form has not been good recently. Yes, he scored a century in a red-ball game in Australia some time ago, but this is where the team needs to take a closer look at the statistics.

‘They need a quick solution’

The big problem of KKR is that their number 5 and number 6 players are failing miserably and this is clearly affecting their performance. Gavaskar said, “Cameron Green coming in at No. 4 is fine, but the big concern is at No. 5 and No. 6, where they seem to be struggling a bit.”

Notably, the Kolkata-based franchise will now take on the red-form Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next IPL 2026 encounter at the Eden Gardens on April 6 and will be keen to make a strong comeback.
