Sunil Gavaskar questions Bumrah’s discipline after repeated no-balls in MI vs LSG match

Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah seems to have hit a rare low in his professional cricket career. Since the beginning of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), fast bowlers have been struggling to get wickets. To everyone’s surprise, he did not take any wicket in two consecutive matches.

Tonight, against Lucknow Super Giants, he bowled a total of 8 no-balls, which is something new that cricket fans have seen in his illustrious career, both in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians and in international cricket for Team India.

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar was absolutely furious at Jasprit Bumrah for his poor bowling performance against LSG at Mumbai Indians’ home ground, Wankhede Stadium.

Jasprit Bumrah has touched a new low in his IPL career for Mumbai Indians

Bumrah did not get any wicket in his 4 over spell, resulting in MI losing by 45 runs. The seamer completed his entire bowling quota at an economy rate of 11.25. Bumrah gave away 31 runs in his first two overs against LSG as Nicholas Pooran and Mitch Marsh were in charge at that time.

According to Sunil Gavaskar, giving a staggering number of 8 no-balls is beyond what is acceptable in professional cricket. If it had been a no-ball, Gavaskar could have given some thought, but being given no-balls repeatedly in the same match made the former Team India batsman angry.

“It is not acceptable, you are a professional cricketer, I can understand, but bowling no-balls, it is clearly not acceptable,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling, via Sky Sports.

The Indian fast bowler is considered one of the best across all formats. He also played an important role behind Team India’s historic 2026 T20 World Cup campaign.

During the preparations for IPL 2026, fans were hoping to see another great season from the fast bowler for Mumbai Indians. But the reality is something else. He has seen a huge decline in his form, which is not only affecting his IPL figures but is also causing problems for the team.

Jasprit’s complete IPL career vs his IPL 2026 career stats at a glance

Throughout his IPL career, Jasprit has played 155 matches for Mumbai Indians and has taken a total of 186 wickets so far at an economy rate of 7.35, which is one of the best in the league.

His infamous yorker is considered one of the nightmares for batsmen even in the era of Twenty20 cricket. But if we only talk about his IPL 2026 performance then the difference is clear.

The 32-year-old has taken just 3 wickets at an average of 95 and an economy of 8.61 (before the LSG game), and he has been one of the obvious reasons for MI’s struggles this season. Even against LSG’s uncapped batsman Himmat Singh, Jasprit Bumrah gave a no-ball and also gave a free hit.
