“Senior all-rounder and former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ravindra Jadeja will represent Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the upcoming IPL season following a successful trade,” the IPL said in an official media release.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain and India wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson will now represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the current league fee of Rs 18 crore. Samson, one of the most experienced players in the league, has played 177 IPL matches.

CSK will be the third franchise of his career. Since making his IPL debut in 2013, the senior pro has represented RR in all the seasons except two – 2016 and 2017, when he played for Delhi Capitals.”

Ravindra Jadeja’s IPL journey

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s IPL journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. At just 19 years old, he started his career with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and immediately became a key part of their historic title win in the first IPL season.

In two seasons, Jadeja played 27 matches for the Royals and scored 430 runs and took six wickets and quickly became one of the most exciting young all-rounders in the IPL. However, Jadeja’s progress suffered a setback in 2010 when he was suspended for violating contract rules.

But the Indian all-rounder made a strong comeback in 2011, when he joined Kochi Tuskers Kerala and led the way with 283 runs and eight wickets in 14 matches. The biggest turning point came in 2012 when CSK signed him for Rs 9.72 crore, making him one of the most expensively bought players in that auction.

Since then, Jadeja has become a key pillar of CSK’s success. Even during CSK’s two-year ban in 2016 and 2017, he performed well for Gujarat Lions, scoring 349 runs in 27 matches and taking 13 wickets.

In 13 seasons with CSK, Jadeja played 254 matches and scored over 3,200 runs besides taking 143 wickets, becoming their highest wicket-taker, and cementing his legacy as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.

He also shares the record with Dhoni for most Player of the Match awards (16).
