It’s been great: Smith on his first PSL experience
The veteran batsman explained that it is not about changing skills in a few weeks but about creating a positive environment where players can enjoy and perform together.
“It’s been fantastic so far. I’m experiencing the PSL for the first time. We’ve played very good cricket so far to be honest, and we’re sitting in a good place. I think the atmosphere is really important when you come into any franchise or any franchise around the world,” Steve Smith said in a video of Multan Sultans at an event.

“But it’s coming together for six weeks. You can’t change the skills too much. You need to create an environment where everyone can enjoy and perform together as a unit.”
Steve Smith credits Multan Sultans’ strong performance in PSL 2026 to team effort
Multan’s biggest strength this season has been teamwork, as Smith pointed out that individual players have stepped up and performed in those five matches, which has helped the team remain consistent and strong so far in the ongoing PSL 2026.
The captain further added, “We are fortunate that we have a really efficient group, and everyone has been contributing at different times throughout the tournament so far. So, I think when you win a franchise tournament, you have to play your best cricket at the back end in the final. And I think we have been preparing really well for that. But yes, it has been a lot of fun so far. It has been good to be here in Pakistan.”
Steve Smith aims for Olympics 2028, will use PSL to prove himself
The right-handed batsman said he is looking forward to the rest of the PSL 2026 season in the next few weeks as he will have a chance to play some T20 matches to prove himself as he aims to play in the Olympics 2028. His biggest goal is to represent Australia at the Olympics, and he is working on improving his power-hitting and fitness.
Smith is well aware of the fact that modern T20 cricket requires power and big hitting, so he is striving to match that level. He is also using his experience smartly, mixing power with skill and finding gaps in the field, especially during the power play, as power hitters are the most successful in this modern era.
Smith signed off by saying, “My motivation is really to play in the Olympics. I looked at playing the World Cup, winning the World Cup, the Ashes and all that kind of stuff. And then the Olympics came, and I thought, “This would be really something – it would be really cool to be involved in that.” I think that’s my big motivation: to be part of the Olympic team in 2028.”
