Australian cricket legend Steve Smith has chosen his ideal player with 5 main characteristics suggested to him. He did not cite players like Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar or Ricky Ponting to be his ideal player, but chose modern players.
Before the start of the Australian summer with the Ashes, legendary Australian cricketer Steve Smith, once part of the Fab-4, was interviewed and asked to choose an ideal player.
Steve Smith did not cite any of the qualities mentioned in him as he chose one English, one Indian, one Kiwi and two Australian cricketers and their qualities for a unique batsman. Smith has 10000+ runs for Australia in the longest format of the game and has meanwhile retired from the ODI format.
Steve Smith praised the technique of English batsman Joe Root
The first and most important quality that a batsman would need involves technique, and hence, Steve Smith described England legend Joe Root as the batsman with the most brilliant technique.
The batsman recently top-scored for England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and was their highest run-scorer in the format. He is currently the second highest run-scorer in the Test format and is credited with breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most runs in Test cricket.
However, the English batsman has not shown solid form in the white-ball format recently. His form in New Zealand ODI was quite disappointing.
Fab-4 called in Steve Smith’s exclusive Perfect Player
In the last decade of international cricket, four great batsmen from four different countries were included in the list of players called Fab-4. This includes Steve Smith from Australia, Joe Root from England, Virat Kohli from India and Kane Williamson from New Zealand.
Smith picked Kane Williamson as the cricketer with the best mentality on the field. Smith said, “Kane Williamson. Just always in the moment. Kept the bat going for a long time.”
“Probably Virat Kohli. I think his ability to chase runs, his average in chases, is outrageous – so Virat Kohli,” Smith said of Kohli, the master of chasing as a clutch player.
The presenter commented, “Very good player,” and Smith humorously replied, “He’s not bad, yes,” he laughed.
Smith idolises a unique ability in his Australian teammates
When Smith was asked who could be called the best power hitter. Smith readily revealed that it could be his Australian teammate Tim David, who is a staunch hitter of the cricket ball.
Smith assured, “Keeps the bat so open. Big strong guy and hits the ball miles.”
Smith identified Glenn Maxwell as a player who can be the X-factor for any team on his best day. “Yes, he plays it all around the field. He doesn’t lack confidence and yes, when he’s out there, he’s probably as difficult as anybody to stop,” Smith said.
