Sri Lankan players detained like prisoners in Pakistan, video shocked

Sri Lankan players have been given a high level of security in Pakistan after Sri Lanka Cricket threatened the players with a formal review if they leave Pakistan. The remaining matches of the series have been postponed for a day or so.

Sri Lanka is currently on tour to Pakistan to participate in a three-match ODI series starting on 11 November 2025. On the other hand, the Zimbabwe team will soon arrive in the country to participate in the triangular series with Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

The series started on 11 November at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and during this phase, a bomb blast took place in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

Sri Lanka Cricket asks its players to stay in Pakistan under high security

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has threatened its men’s national team players and support staff with a formal review if they leave the ongoing Pakistan tour due to security concerns.

After the suicide bombing in Islamabad, many members of the Sri Lankan team asked to return to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka head coach Sanath Jayasuriya said, “The support staff was very clear that we wanted to stay and complete the tour.” “But as the team management on the tour, we listened to the players’ concerns, and made sure we addressed them in detail.”

Today, in Rawalpindi, the Sri Lanka team bus was seen surrounded by a huge convoy of STF and Pakistan Police while being taken to the team hotel after the optional practice session.

Why is Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI match not happening today?

After the death of 12 people in the terrorist attack in the capital Islamabad on November 11, it was revealed that Sri Lankan players are yearning to return home. SLC refused to accept any such requests and threatened action against the players.

This attack in Islamabad is not far from the cricket ground of Rawalpindi. This led to the PCB announcing that both games would be delayed by a day, while the T20 tri-series would also now start on November 18 instead of November 17.

The rescheduled tour will include two matches to be played on 15 and 16 November. This will be followed by another tour with Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, which is also part of the tri-series.

With the help of Salman Ali Aga’s brilliant century, Pakistan won a close victory by 6 runs in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan secured a close six-run win in the first ODI against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Salman Ali Aga scored a century off just 87 balls and supported another half-century from Hussain Talat.

Pakistan set a target of 300 runs for the Sri Lankan team, which was reduced to a total of 293 runs. Mohammad Nawaz also played a fast innings and scored 36 runs in just 23 balls. The entire Sri Lankan top order made some good starts while chasing the target.

Wanindu Hasaranga achieved the target by playing a good half-century in the lower order. Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah looked to be the best of the bowlers along with all-rounder Faheem Ashraf. Hasaranga also took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka with the ball.
