Sri Lanka Playing XI vs Pakistan- Pakistan T20I Tri Series 2025, Match 6:
Openers: Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara
Former T20 World Cup winners Sri Lanka will be looking to repeat the performance they had in the previous match against Zimbabwe when they take on Pakistan to qualify for the final of the tri-nation series.
The visitors will rely on the resources at their disposal to perform well in their respective disciplines to give Pakistan a tough challenge with bat, ball and in the field.
Although Sri Lanka lack experience compared to their opponent, they showed in the last match what they are capable of if they play to their full potential.
Dasun Shanaka will aim to do just that against an in-form Pakistan batting and bowling line-up in a do-or-die match for the Lankan Lions.
For starters, Sri Lanka would want their batting to be good as batsman inconsistency has been a big issue for the team in the series.
The responsibility of giving the team a good start will be on the opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara, as was the case against Zimbabwe.
Along with keeping a good stand while batting in partnership, the team management will support the batsmen to score big individually as well.
Nissanka, who fell two runs short of scoring a memorable century in the last match, will be looking to take it forward and will need good support from Mishara, who will be keen to play a match-winning innings himself.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Kusal Mendis (wicketkeeper), Kusal Perera, Zenith Liyanage, Dasun Shanaka (captain), Pawan Rathnayake, Wanindu Hasaranga.
Along with the openers, the middle-order batsmen will also be tasked with dictating the conditions in the middle phase of the Sri Lankan batting innings.
Experienced batsmen like Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera will have to take up the responsibility and neutralize the threat of Mohammad Nawaz, who has been in excellent form since his return to the team.
The above mentioned batsmen are expected to get good support from Zenith Liyanage, who can also cross the boundary with ease, and the team captain for this particular series, Dasun Shanaka.
As in any format of the game, all eyes will be on the top five batsmen who score big numbers for the team while batting first or chasing the target, as Nissanka and Mendis did in the return match against Zimbabwe.
Bowlers: Dushmantha Chameera, Mahesh Theekshana, Ishan Malinga
As far as bowling is concerned, she will be encouraged by her strong performance in the last match and would like to give a similar effort against Pakistan.
However, given the form of the Pakistani batting lineup, the Sri Lankan bowling attack will have its work cut out for it.
If the team wants to prevent Pakistan’s batsmen from scoring freely, they will have to put up a combined bowling performance, taking each ball forward and making meaningful contributions.
One bowler who will play a major role in carrying out that plan will be Wanindu Hasaranga, who returned among the wickets against Zimbabwe and will aim to take consistent wickets after the power play to give his team the best chance of victory.
Hasaranga will hope for support from fellow spinner Mahesh Theekshana, who will take the new ball, and the fast bowling duo of Dushmantha Chameera and Ishan Malinga.
