On Friday, November 7, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the white-ball squad for the upcoming tour of Pakistan, in which the Lankan Lions will participate in an ODI series and a T20I tri-series.
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selection committee has selected strong teams for the tour, but there are some big names who have missed the selection due to their fitness problems.
Sri Lanka will leave for Pakistan on November 8
Pakistan’s Sri Lanka tour 2025 will start with a three-match ODI series between the two teams. All the matches of the series will be held on 11, 13 and 15 November at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
After that, the tri-nation series will begin, where Lanka Lions will play their first match against Zimbabwe on 19 November and their second match against Pakistan on 22 November. They will play more matches against the same teams and if they perform well, they will qualify for the finals.
Also, in the official statement issued by SLC, it was revealed that the players will leave for Pakistan on November 8.
“The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has selected the following teams to participate in the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka 2025. The team will participate in an ODI series and a T20 tri-series with Pakistan and Zimbabwe during the tour. The national team is scheduled to depart for Pakistan on November 8, 2025,” SLC said.
Mathisha Pathirana ruled out of Pakistan tour
Charit Asalanka will lead a strong team on the Pakistan tour, but he will be without the services of some key fast bowlers.
The selection committee wanted to include Dilshan Madushanka in the ODI team for the upcoming series, but he was declared unfit. Notably, the fast bowler is currently recovering from his knee injury and to deal with his absence, the selection committee has included Ishan Malinga in the squad.
In another big blow, star right-arm fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana has been ruled out of the T20 series. He will not be able to take part in the matches as he has not fully recovered from the recent upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).
The SLC selection committee has named Asitha Fernando in place of Mathisha Pathirana in the T20 squad, which also includes Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara, Asitha Fernando and Ishan Malinga.
Meanwhile, Lahiru Udara, Kamil Mishara, Wanindu Hasaranga and Pramod Madushan have been replaced by Nuwanidu Fernando, Milan Priyanath Rathnayake, Nishan Madushka and Dunith Velelage in the ODI squad.
And in the T20I squad, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Zenith Liyanage, Dushan Hemantha, and Ishan Malinga have replaced Nuwanidu Fernando, Dunith Velalej, Chamika Karunaratne, and Binura Fernando.
“ODI: Dilshan Madushanka was included in the ODI squad but will not tour as he is recovering from a knee injury. Ishan Malinga has been named as his replacement,” SLC said.
“T20I: Mathiesha Pathirana was included in the T20I squad but will not tour as he is recovering from a recent upper respiratory tract infection (URTI). Asitha Fernando has been included in the squad in his place,” SLC said.
