On Friday, 21 November, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the South Africa national cricket team’s white-ball squad for the upcoming series against the India national cricket team.
The South Africa national cricket team is currently involved in a two-match Test series against the India national cricket team, and they will next play an ODI and a T20I series against the Men in Blue.
Anrich Nortje returns to T20I as South Africa squad announced
The Proteas won the first match of the Test series against India in Kolkata and will be aiming to repeat the same performance in the second game in Guwahati from November 22.
After the conclusion of the Test series, the three-match ODI series will begin, which will be held on November 30, December 3 and December 6 in Ranchi, Raipur and Visakhapatnam.
South Africa’s tour of India will conclude with an exciting five-match T20I series to be played across five different venues on December 9, 11, 14, 17 and 19.
Meanwhile, the Proteas have announced their full-strength squads for both the series. Temba Bavuma will captain the ODI team, while returnee Aiden Markram will captain the T20 side.
Along with Aiden Markram, fast bowler Anrich Nortje has also made a comeback into the T20I squad after a long time, while David Miller has also returned to the setup.
In the ODI team, Rubin Harman retained his place, but Luan-Dre Pretorius missed out on selection due to the presence of several top-order batting options in the team.
We are really looking forward to this white-ball tour for many reasons – Shukri Conrad
In an official statement released by CSA, South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad said that while they are looking forward to the white-ball series for a number of reasons, the 50-over matches will give them an idea of how the team will prepare for the 2027 World Cup. He elaborated:
“We are really looking forward to this white-ball tour for a number of reasons. The T20I series in particular is an important opportunity for us to finalize our squad ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup, which will also be played in India. It is important now to get clarity on the combinations and roles as we prepare for that tournament.
“Of course we will miss KG [Kagiso Rabada] On this tour, but as we saw in the first Test win over India, there is depth in this group and that is one of our primary goals as a team; Developing a unit full of players who can step up at any time.
“Every time someone is unavailable, it opens the door for another player to stand in. We would like to see more players stand in as we have seen so often over the last few years.
“It’s really good to welcome Enrique back to the T20I squad after missing the previous tours due to injury. We know what he brings so we are really looking forward to working with him.
“In the 50-over format, these matches will give us a clear picture of where we are as a group and what we need to improve on while shaping the team ahead of the 2027 World Cup.”
