Just before the start of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), former South African bowler Dale Steyn has made a big claim that Rohit Sharma can emerge as the highest run-scorer this season.

Rohit Sharma has been out of the T20 format for some time.
However, recently we have seen him losing weight for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League after he was trolled on the internet for being overweight.

Can Rohit Sharma be seen in his prime form?

As we all already know, Sharma has retired from Test and T20I formats and has focused his entire focus on the ODI format. Talking about this, Dale Steyn said, “We may see the 2024 World Cup-winning captain in his prime”, which he showed when he crossed the 500-run mark for the first time in the year 2013, leading MI to their first title.

Speaking to the broadcast, Steyn said that Rohit Sharma is looking fit, well-prepared and more focused for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

“Guns blazing. I think he will be focused and aggressive, but in a controlled manner. It will not be a reckless attack, it will be cultured, will adapt to the conditions. We are likely to see the best of Rohit Sharma this season,” he said.

He said, “You can see it in their bodies, and there is this feeling in the air – cricket in India is always in the air, but now there is a winning culture that Indian cricket is starting to adopt. The world is seeing it, and India is two steps ahead of everyone else.”

Showed in two months that Rohit Sharma is no less than Virat Kohli.

Since Rohit has already retired from the 50-over format and T20I format along with run-machine Virat Kohli. Stan believes that this is the best time for him to show the world who he is.

“Like before, Rohit is not a consistent player across all three formats, so he is using the IPL as the perfect platform to showcase his skills and remind everyone that he is still at the top,” he said.

He said, “This is his period, two months to show India that he remains among the best players along with Virat and other experienced players. Opening at Wankhede, on the other side with Quinton de Kock and possibly (Ryan) Rickleton also, Rohit is ready to explode. It is going to be exciting.”

All eyes are on Rohit Sharma for IPL 2026

Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful players and captains in IPL history, having led Mumbai Indians to five titles while scoring over 7,000 runs in the tournament. As of the 2026 season, he remains a key figure in the top order, known for his composed batting, strike rate of over 132, with a highest score of 109* with two centuries and over 47 half-centuries.
In IPL 2025, Rohit faced an inconsistent campaign with Mumbai Indians, which included a slow start and a series of low scores before regaining form in the latter half. He scored 329 runs in 13 matches at an average of 27.42, including three fifties, with a crucial 199 runs coming in just three innings, highlighting his poor form. However, after being away from the two international formats, expectations are high for Rohit to regain his best performance in IPL 2026 and lead from the front. With fresh focus, experience and leadership, he will be crucial to MI’s campaign as they look to make a strong start against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where fans will be eager to see a stellar performance from their experienced star.
