Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will play his first coaching role as the head coach of Pretoria Capital for the 2025-26 season. Former Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) president replaced former England batsman Jonathan Trot, who left the post after just one year in charge.

Ganguly worked as a team director for Delhi Capital during 2018-19 and 2022-24. After retiring as a player, Ganguly organized leadership positions as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and BCCI. He served as BCCI President from 2019 to 2022, before Roger Binny succeeded him.

Jonathan Trot steps as the head coach of Pretoria Capital after a season

Jonathan Trot stepped as the head coach of Pretoria Capital after a single season. The team won only two wins in 10 group matches and failed to reach the knockout. The franchise thanked him on social media for his leadership and dedication.

Pretoria Capital also confirmed the same confirmation on social media, saying, “Jonathan Trot is grateful to your leadership and is unwavering dedication for the team. Best wishes for your next adventure work! Once a capital, always a capital!”

Jonathan Trot, currently the head coach of Afghanistan, is expected to manage the team in the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.

To avoid a scheduling conflict with the World Cup, the 2026 edition of the SA20 has been postponed. The South Africa T20 tournament is now scheduled from 26 December to 25 January.

Sourav Ganguly’s stance on joining Team India as head coach

Earlier, talking to news agency PTI, Sourav Ganguly revealed that he had never considered coaching Team India. However, he mentioned that he would be open for future opportunities as part of his post -service journey.

“I really never thought about it because I came into different roles. I ended (competitive cricket) in 2013 and then became the chairman of the board (BCCI). We will see what the future is. I am just 50 (53), so let’s see what happens. I am open for it. We will see where it goes,” Ganguli said.

Sourav Ganguly is one of the biggest captains of India. He played 113 Tests and 311 Odis for India in his brilliant career. The left -handed batsman scored more than 18,000 runs in his international career. He also directed India in the 2003 World Cup final, where he lost to Australia.
