Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has filed a police complaint against an unofficial Facebook page and a sports media platform for allegedly spreading misinformation. The complaint came after fake social media posts were published claiming that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had raided his residence.

Ganguly lodged a complaint at Thakurpukur police station in Kolkata on Saturday, June 15. The complaint has named Facebook page “Sourav Ganguly Fans” and sports website Sportzwiki. Following the complaint, police officials began investigating the matter and are investigating the source of the post.
Sourav Ganguly denies fabricated claims of Enforcement Directorate raid
Sourav Ganguly has denied reports claiming that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided his residence. He described the posts as false and misleading and said they were damaging to his reputation and public image.

According to a report in India Today, the viral post details an enforcement action that never happened. Ganguly rejected the claims and filed a police complaint, following which authorities began investigating the source of the misleading content.
Before retiring from international cricket in 2008, Ganguly scored 11,363 runs at an average of 41.02 in 311 ODI matches and recorded 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries during his 16-year international career.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar take action against digital misinformation
Former India captains Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar have taken legal action against the online misuse of their names and images. Both the cricket legends have raised concerns about digital impersonation and unauthorized use of their identities on various platforms.

In 2023, Tendulkar filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police Crime Branch over misleading online advertisements that allegedly used his name and image without permission. Mumbai Police Cyber Cell registered a case under sections 420, 465 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code and started investigation.
Gavaskar also approached the Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights from unauthorized use. The court directed major digital platforms including Google, Meta and X to remove infringing content and take action against fabricated posts.
Sourav Ganguly helped rebuild Indian cricket during a challenging period
Sourav Ganguly took command of the Indian team in difficult times. He focused on building a fearless and competitive culture. He supported young players, encouraged an aggressive approach and helped restore confidence in Indian cricket after the match-fixing controversies of the late 1990s.
Ganguly scored 7,212 runs in 113 Test matches at an average of 42.17. The left-handed batsman recorded 16 centuries and 35 half-centuries before taking up administrative and broadcasting roles after retirement.
After becoming a regular member of the Indian team in 1996, Ganguly led India to the final of the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy. He later served as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2022.
Ganguly made his mark on the international stage by scoring a century in his first Test match against England at Lord’s. He followed this up with another century in the same series and became one of the few players to score a century in each of his first two Test innings.
