In April 2025, tension between India and Pakistan increased after a terrorist attack in Pahgam, Jammu and Kashmir, 26 civilians died.
India found links to Pakistan in the attack and launched Operation Sindoor to destroy terrorist facilities in Pakistan, which led to mutual attacks, drone war and intense fights. Diplomatic relations quickly collapsed, but reached a ceasefire on 10 May aided by international arbitration.
Following the incident, the Asia Cup 2025 had serious doubts, but at the Annual General Meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Dhaka, the decision was made to operate for competition, in which both India and Pakistan participated.
On Saturday, July 26, the entire schedule for the Asia Cup 2025 was also declared. The BCCI-Hosted Continental tournament will be held in UAE from 9 September to 28 September.
India and Pakistan are placed in the same group with UAE and Oman, and the hardcore rivals will collide in Dubai on 14 September. If the team moves forward in the competition, there may be three matches between India and Pakistan.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has faced serious criticism after giving green lights to the India vs Pakistan clash in view of the attack.
However, Sourav Ganguly is not one of the people who beat BCCI; Instead, he has supported India vs Pakistan Clash. Sourav Ganguly said that he was ‘fine’ with the India-Pakistan match and felt that the game should move forward, but terrorism would have to be stopped.
Ganguly told Annie, “I am fine. The game should be cured. At the same time, Pahgam should not be there, but the game should move forward. There should be no terrorism; it needs to be stopped. India needs to stop. India adopted a strong stand towards terrorism … The game needs to be played,” Ganguli told Annie.

Recently, Makarand Weingankar, a pre-cricket administrator who served various positions in Indian cricket, supported the inclusion of Sourav Ganguly in the Indian coaching set-up.
