Former cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, and Raghuram Bhatt have been nominated by their respective state units to participate in the control board for cricket at the annual general meeting of India (BCCI) on 28 September. The BCCI will hold elections for the President including the President during the AGM.

Former India all -rounder Roger Binny recently stepped into the BCCI president after the board reached the age limit of 70 years. A new President will be elected during AGM. In particular, a new vice -president, treasurer, secretary and joint secretary will be selected, as well as with a change in the IPL Governing Council.

The deadline for nominating representatives of 38 BCCI units closed on Friday night. Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, Raghuram Bhatt, and Jaydev Shah are among those nominated to participate in AGM.

Sourav Ganguly, who is nominated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), is expected to contest for the role of the BCCI office or a position in the IPL. Ganguly first worked as the President of BCCI in 2019, who became the first former India captain to hold the post.

Harbhajan Singh, nominated by Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), will participate in his first BCCI AGM. Although he has not actively involved in cricket administration, he may be considered for an office-carrying role or a position on the IPL Governing Council.

BCCI to accept nomination on 21 September

The BCCI returned to an electoral system from a committee of administrators six years ago, and the office-holding positions have been unanimously filled without formal elections. Nominations for the upcoming elections will be accepted on 21 September.

Apart from the position of the President, at least another office-carrying role, the possibility that the Vice President is expected to be filled. Current Vice President Rajiv Shukla is ready to become the acting president after Roger Binny’s departure due to the age limit of 70 years.

Devjit Saikia (Secretary), Prabhatage Bhatia (Treasurer), and Rohan Desai (Joint Secretary) are eligible for re -election.

Sanjay Naik will represent the Mumbai Cricket Association, Arun Dhumal Himachal Cricket Association, and Shukla will represent the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. Shukla is eligible for another term, which is left more than a year before reaching the cap of age.

Harbhajan Singh and Sourav Ganguly’s performance in international cricket

Harbhajan Singh is considered one of the finest off-spinners of India. He was part of India’s winning squads in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.

Singh played 103 Tests, 236 Odis and 28 T20I, taking a total of 711 wickets in all three formats. He took 417 wickets at an average of 32.46, which included 25 five wickets Houles. He also took 269 wickets in Odis and 25 in T20I.

Sourav Ganguly scored 7,212 runs in 113 Tests, on an average 42.17 and 16 centuries and 35 half -centuries. He scored 11,363 runs in 311 Odis, which included an average of 41.02 and 22 centuries and 72 half -centuries. Ganguly also took India to the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup.
