He welcomed the confirmation of the match and reiterated that India-Pakistan matches have always had a special place in the game.

“I don’t really know all those things – what goes on at the government level or why it happens. But the match is happening, and that’s a good thing. Games are different – sports and politics are different,” Ganguly said. He said the rivalry has historically produced memorable contests and hoped the upcoming game would continue that legacy.

However, the former BCCI president also offered an honest assessment of the current balance between the two sides. According to Ganguly, Pakistan will have to be at their best to challenge an impressive Indian team.

“To play against India, you have to play very well – India is a very strong team,” He made the remarks while outlining the standards required to make the competition competitive.

India’s dominance increases pressure on Pakistan

Ganguly’s comments come in the backdrop of India’s excellent record against Pakistan in T20 Internationals. India has won 12 out of 16 T20 matches played between the two teams, while one match was tied. The numbers become even more imbalanced when recent history is considered.

Since September 5, 2022, India remain unbeaten against the Men in Green across all formats. During this period, India have won eight of the nine matches played between the arch-rivals, while one match ended in a no result. What is more surprising is that the last seven completed matches have gone in India’s favour, highlighting the gulf that has emerged between the two teams.
