Indian female cricketer Smriti Mandhana has become the first player in the history of women’s cricket to score 1000+ ODI runs in a calendar year. She overtook former Australian great Belinda Clark for the record of most runs in a calendar year.
The year 2025 will be one of the most memorable years for Indian female cricketer Smriti Mandhana. Their record is extraordinary for Indian women as they take on Australia in their fourth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Smriti Mandhana is the first woman cricketer to reach 1000 runs in a calendar year
The Indian opener has had a great year with the bat and has broken many records. The 29-year-old female cricketer has become the first player in the history of women’s cricket to score 1000 runs in a calendar year.
She achieved a special feat when she crossed the 18-run mark off the bowling of left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux in the eighth over of the innings. She reached this milestone by dancing on the track and hitting the spinner for a six towards long-on.
The Indian vice-captain now holds the record for most runs in a calendar year, as she surpassed former Australian great Belinda Clark’s 970 runs in 1997. Till now, he had not scored much runs in the World Cup 2025.
Smriti Mandhana’s records in women’s cricket
The left-handed batsman is currently the fifth highest run-scorer in the history of women’s cricket. He is behind legendary cricketers like Mithali Raj, Charlotte Edwards, Suzie Bates and Stafanie Taylor.
She is currently the female player with the joint-highest number of centuries in Women’s ODI along with New Zealand opener Suzie Bates. It should also be mentioned that Mandhana had scored a brilliant century in the last match played against Australia.
This was the fastest century scored by a female cricketer, as well as the fastest century by an Indian in just 50 balls, breaking the previous record held by Virat Kohli. Currently, Mandhana is playing her third World Cup, she was part of India’s most successful World Cup campaign in 2017, where they finished as the runners-up of the competition.
