India national cricket team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak is excited to work with wonderkid Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but he refuses to interfere too much as the teenager is already incredible.

After dominating IPL 2026, Vaibhav is currently on the Sri Lanka tour and will be seen in action for India A in the one-day tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. Immediately after the 50-over matches, the left-hander will join the senior team for his first UK tour.

Indian team management ready to create history for Vaibhav Suryavanshi will have to adopt a cautious approach

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been selected in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 series in Ireland and England as well as the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. If he gets a chance to play in any of the series, the 15-year-old will become the youngest male cricketer to represent India.

Sachin Tendulkar was 16 when he made his international debut in 1989, and if India gives him a debut cap in the upcoming T20I series in Ireland or England, Vaibhav could break that long-standing record even before he turns 16.

While the entire cricket world is talking about grandeur, the India national cricket team management is trying to keep things simple. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has made it clear that the coaching staff does not want to give too much advice to the young player from day one.

Sitanshu Kotak is excited to work with Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Following India’s emphatic win by an innings and 300 runs over Afghanistan in the one-off Test in New Chandigarh, Kotak revealed that he plans to allow Vaibhav to be himself rather than changing things that were already working when he joined the team.

“Look, as a batting coach or any coach, it is always a challenge because at this level players have their own thinking, their own style, their own way to succeed,” Sitanshu Kotak told reporters in New Chandigarh, as quoted by the Indian Express.

“And then, you try to add something; it always takes time; it always takes trust to believe them. And to me, it’s very important how much you want to add and when you want to add it.”

Kotak praised Vaibhav’s fearless batting against world class bowlers

Kotak was extremely impressed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s self-confidence at such a young age. The batting coach said that it was really exciting to see how the Rajasthan Royals opening batsman took on the world-class and experienced bowlers without showing any fear during IPL 2026.

The coach further said, “I have seen some innings in the Under-19 Challenger Trophy.” But from last year’s IPL and the way he bats and the way he executes those shots, honestly, it’s really exciting for a 15-year-old kid. And for all the world-class bowlers, the way he has faced and the way he has succeeded is unbelievable, how talented he is.”

Ready to guide Vaibhav only when needed – Sitanshu Kotak on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s help

The left-handed batsman’s clean hitting, shot selection, ability to withstand pressure and adjust his game as per the situation surprised everyone. Therefore, the Indian support staff wants to help Vaibhav Suryavanshi only when he needs it, as they are excited to welcome the teenage sensation to the team.

Kotak concluded by saying, “So, I’m really excited. But personally, we let him come; let’s actually see what help he gets. Whenever we see something, we will definitely try to help him as much as he needs.”
