Zimbabwe national cricket team captain Sikandar Raza started his team’s performance in the first T20I of the three-match series against the India national cricket team on Thursday, July 23. India defeated Zimbabwe by 7 wickets to win the first game and lead the series 1–0.
Speaking after the defeat, Sikandar Raza was not happy with the team’s performance and said that the team failed to execute its plans in the first T20I in Harare. He praised the collective effort of the players and expressed confidence that Zimbabwe would bounce back in the second match of the series.
Sensational comeback of Mayank Yadav
India won the toss and elected to bowl first, as Ashok Sharma made his debut in the game and Mayank Yadav also returned to the team after two years. Sikandar Raza suffered a blow before the match as Milton Shumba was ruled out of the series before the first game.
Mayank Yadav made a brilliant comeback into the team and took a wicket on the very first ball as Brian Bennett was out for a golden duck. After that, the Men in Blue took complete control of the game as Chevron lost wickets at regular intervals, and at one point their score was 5/64.
Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav destroyed the host team’s batting by taking two wickets each. Ravi Bishnoi and Shivam Dubey took one wicket each, helping Zimbabwe score 125/7 in 20 overs.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history in the first T20 match
Chasing the target, Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave a solid start to India, but his partner Abhishek Sharma failed and was out after scoring 1 run in 8 balls. But the 15-year-old boy’s wonder did not stop and he scored a half-century in 18 balls and became the youngest cricketer to score a half-century at the age of 15 years and 118 days.
Later, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer put on a 46-run partnership for the third wicket as the southpaw scored 35 and Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 28, and Tilak Verma scored 6 as India easily won the game with 40 balls to spare.
Sikandar Raza is not happy with the team’s performance
Sikandar Raza said that the conditions were difficult to bat on as he did not hit many boundaries and he felt that there was some movement in the wicket, which made it difficult for his batsmen. He believes that they need a flatter wicket to put runs on the board and bounce back in the series by winning the next match.
Sikandar Raza said in the post-match presentation, “I thought it remained difficult with the new ball. Unfortunately, we didn’t hit too many boundaries up front, so the ball remained new and because of that, I felt it became more difficult to bat because of the movement off the deck.”
Sikandar Raza said,[Were conditions similar to what you’ve experienced recently?] I felt there was a lot of humidity during the Bangladesh ODI series and it remained there for a long time. Whereas today, I felt there was moisture for the first eight to ten or even 12 overs and apart from that, when India came to bat, the wicket was perfect.”
“So, hopefully we get a better wicket for the next game so that even when we lose the toss, it doesn’t play too big a role. [On recovering from 32/4 to 125/7] Yes definitely. This is one of the positives. Marumani and Madhevere – This is also a new role. I thought they batted really well and gave us a respectable score.”
