The BCCI Selection Committee also handed over Vice-Capanesey to Gill in T20Is, and reports claimed that it was made to send a message to Captain Suryakumar Yadav, which to take steps with the bat, because the youth is being seen as a future all-format captain.
Including Gill in the T20i setup as Vice-Captain meant that he was guaranteed a place in XI, and India had to break the successful opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma.
Gill started opening the innings with Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson was demoted in batting order. However, Shubman Gill has failed to justify his place, scoring just 20*, 10 and 5 in the first three matches.
In the match against Oman, he fell in the second place itself as the left -handed Pesar Shah Faisal did a stunning complete delivery that swung late, and Gill was pulled into the drive.
The batsman left a big difference between the bat and the pad, and the ball shattered his stamos for 8-gends 5. In addition, there was a wicket medane by Shah Faisal.

India batting for the first time in Asia Cup 2025 for the first time
India won the toss and opted to bat for the first time in the Asia Cup 2025 for the first time, as they chased their first two matches. Speaking on Espncricinfo before the match, Sanjay Bangar also advised India to bat first. He said:
“I feel that they can just choose to bat first and by doing this, I think not only from the point of view of a batsman, but also from the bowler’s point of view, whether there is any dew, which is not highly likely, but if there is dew, you get a chance or an outing where you know whether you know, okay, okay, through the team.
“I think this is part of the preparation in which you do not really want a way to win a cricket match and the Indian team has shown that they are excellent when they do one of the two and their record has been tremendous in the last 18 months.”
