Speaking to Sky Sports, England captain Ben Stokes, who is out of the fifth test with an injury, said Shubman Gill’s India has been a ‘quality’ side and has also given amazing performances in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. He said:
“There was a lot about this India that three big players who have reached without Ravi Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“But this is the India team quality. You see some of their batsmen and the efforts made by their bowlers, so I think we have made some very good progress. The chat we had after New Zealand’s last winter series has been very good to implement us and get the results.”
Ben Stokes also admitted that both teams have shown great character and played extraordinary quality of cricket. He said:
“The series has been good, the quality of cricket is extraordinary. Both teams have given everything so far and I don’t see it separately.
“The universal pitches have been disappointing, but if you are expecting to be on your side all the time … When you are against it, it shows a lot of character from both to be able to force the results.”
