Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill once again took to Instagram after his team’s defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on Saturday.
After the match, Gill posted a viral Instagram as he had done for each of his team’s last five matches. The difference is that GT had won each of their last five matches before this loss.
Allen, Narine end GT’s winning streak
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill decided to bowl first and he immediately paid the price for it. Finn Allen continued his excellent form by scoring 93 runs with the help of 10 sixes in just 35 balls.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green scored unbeaten half-centuries on the back of good work by Allen. Raghuvanshi scored 82 runs in 44 balls, while Green scored 52 runs in 28 balls, saving KKR from many chances to score 247 runs. Allen was dropped twice, while Raghuvanshi and Green were dropped once each.
The GT pursuit did not really take off in the beginning. Shubman Gill and his opening partner Sai Sudarshan got off to a good start, but while chasing the target, Sudarshan got injured early and had to retire hurt.
Gill then joined forces with the demoted Jos Buttler and the two started building a partnership. Both scored fifties, but ultimately GT always lagged behind in run rate. When Sunil Narine dismissed Gill for his second wicket, Sudarshan came to the crease and completed his half-century.
Despite scoring three half-centuries, Shubman Gill’s team was unable to chase the target and lost by a net run rate-damaging margin of 29 runs.
Shubman Gill posted another Instagram
During GT’s 5-match winning streak, Gill had made viral Instagram posts trolling each team defeated by GT.
Now that this trend has been broken, Gill once again took the help of Instagram, but this time he was seen targeting his own team.
Gill posted an image from the match and captioned it “We’ll take the next catch”, presumably a reference to the four catches dropped by his men that day.
After the match, Gill said that Gujarat Titans did not deserve to win the match, especially because of the missed chances.
“Looking at the wicket, 200-210 was the equal score, but we dropped a lot of catches. The pitch was good, there was odd stopping, but I thought we batted well to reach that score. No worries, but our fielding could have been much better. We set a certain standard and had 3 players sent off – we didn’t deserve to win this,” he said in the post-match presentation.
GT’s next match and playoff scenario
Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans have now played 13 of their scheduled 14 league stage matches in IPL 2026. Their last game is against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad on May 21.
For now, GT’s fate is largely in their own hands. Even if they lose to CSK, GT’s chances of reaching the playoffs are high. A win against CSK would mean GT are in control of their own destiny, while a loss would leave them dependent on other results.
Even if GT has to depend on other results after losing to CSK, they are still highly likely to make the top four and possibly even the top two.
